Fierce "1 vs 16" competition for a place at the Gifted School in Hanoi

(Dan Tri) - This morning (June 8), more than 1,600 candidates took the comprehensive competency assessment test to compete for 105 places in grade 6 at Hanoi National University of Education's Gifted Secondary School. The "competition" ratio here is 1/16.

At around 6:30 a.m. today, thousands of students flocked to the Gifted Secondary School (under Hanoi National University of Education) to take the aptitude test to compete for a place in the school.

Many students still forgot their documents and went to the wrong location, but security forces and youth volunteers were spread from the school gate to the exam room to support the candidates.

The examination council divided the candidates into 59 rooms. The representative of the examination council said that the candidates took the knowledge test in the subjects of culture, arts, and sports in the primary education program, mainly in the current grade 5 program of the Ministry of Education and Training .

This year, Gifted Secondary School enrolls its first class with 105 students/3 classes.

The admission method has two rounds. Round 1 is preliminary selection based on the following criteria: Exam scores for excellent and talented students; based on the results of participation in social activities, talent competitions in culture, arts, and sports at the provincial, national, and international levels.

Scoring is as follows: First prize is 5.0 points, second prize is 4.0 points, third prize is 3.0 points, consolation prize is 2.0 points.

Preliminary score = excellent student exam score + 5-year primary school study results at good completion level or higher.

Students with a total preliminary score of 12.0 points or higher will be able to participate in the second round of capacity assessment.

Round 2, assessing students' overall capacity: The school organizes a capacity assessment for students who have passed the preliminary round with a comprehensive capacity assessment.

Assessment content includes knowledge of cultural, artistic, and physical education subjects in the primary school curriculum, mainly in the current grade 5 curriculum.

Assessment form: Objective test combined with essay, candidates take the test on paper within 120 minutes.

Scoring scale: The overall competency assessment test score is calculated on a 100-point scale.

The school is expected to announce the results on June 18. Please note that the school will not send out exam result notices.

June 19-20 receive appeal applications.

June 28th, collect admission documents after review.

Admission documents include: Original primary school transcript; certified copy of birth certificate; certificate of winning prizes in social activities, talent competitions organized within the province, nationwide, regional and international scope (if any, with original for comparison); ID card/citizen identification card of the student's father/mother/guardian; student code paper and 2 3x4 photos.

Upon entering the school, students will study the 2018 education program and participate in experiential programs and talent development in the form of clubs in the following fields: Mathematics and Information Technology; Natural Sciences and Technology; Science and Arts.

Estimated tuition: 4,000,000 VND/student/month.
