A 12-year-old boy was playing with his friends while riding his bike when the pedal slipped and he hit his sensitive area hard on the saddle, causing pain and slight bruising.

However, the family was subjective, thinking that this was a minor injury, so they only applied cold gel and ice at home without taking the child to the hospital for immediate examination.

The next morning, the testicle continued to swell and become severely bruised. At this point, the family panicked and took the child to the Hanoi Hospital of Andrology and Infertility.

Here, Master, Doctor Dinh Huu Viet - Head of Andrology Department, after examination and ultrasound, discovered that one of the patient's testicles was seriously damaged, and on Doppler ultrasound, there was no pulse signal from the testicle.

Doctors consulted and the initial conclusion was testicular torsion after trauma, this is also a rare case, difficult to diagnose and requires surgery.

The results of the examination during surgery showed that the testicle was twisted twice, bruised, and necrotic. In this situation, the doctor was forced to remove the necrotic testicle to prevent more dangerous complications.

According to Dr. Viet, testicular injuries often come from situations that are very common in life such as sports accidents, falling off a bike, sitting in the wrong position or work accidents...

However, many people are often subjective or do not know how to handle it properly, leading to unwanted consequences.

The first 6 hours after injury are the “golden time” for treatment and testicular preservation. During this period, the possibility of testicular function recovery is highest. Conversely, if delayed, the risk of serious damage or testicular removal will increase.

MSc. Dr. Dinh Huu Viet recommends that parents, when seeing abnormal signs such as abnormally large or small scrotum or testicles, narrow foreskin, inflammation and swelling, should take their children to see a doctor soon, especially in cases of trauma to sensitive areas.

Even though the injury may seem minor, taking your child to see a doctor early will help with the most effective treatment, increase the chance of preserving the testicles and avoid unfortunate consequences.

For children, especially in the active age, participating in sports or playing activities is indispensable. However, you also need to be careful to protect your body, especially sensitive areas.

If you have an accident or feel pain, tell your parents immediately and ask to be taken to see a doctor.
