This morning (June 8), about 103,000 candidates in Hanoi took the math test, concluding the non-specialized 10th grade exam.
According to Mr. Duong, a math teacher at Giang Vo Secondary School, Hanoi, this year's math exam was within reach and in line with the spirit of the 2018education program.
In particular, there is a practical problem to ensure differentiation. "Why is differentiation important? Because Hanoi has a lot of students, 4 specialized schools, 10 top schools, how can those schools and the schools in the farthest places still choose students?", said Mr. Duong.
According to this teacher, the math test has two very good differentiation questions: question c on geometry and question 5. Question 5 is different from the old test. The old test always gives expressions. The new test puts it in a context with real-life elements, students have to convert the language of the text into the language of expressions before solving it.

"Lesson 5 is very good because later on, you all have to solve problems in an optimal way in life. As an experienced teacher, facing a new exam is still very difficult.
However, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced the sample questions very early and organized training right from the beginning of the school year. My students said they did the questions well and happily," Mr. Duong affirmed.
According to Mr. Do Van Bao, math teacher at Vinschool Inter-level High School, the official math exam for grade 10 in Hanoi in 2025-2026 has changed its structure according to the new program, but there are not many surprises for candidates because the exam closely follows the program and is similar to the previously announced sample exam.
However, the structure of the questions has changed significantly compared to previous years, by adding topics on data statistics and probability, grouping related knowledge into large topics.
The test still has 5 large questions, but each question is a group of related knowledge topics, which is convenient for students' thinking flow during the test. The test has a clear structure of the sections in 5 questions, with the following knowledge topics: Data statistics and Probability; Expressions and related problems; Solving problems by setting up equations, systems of equations and applying Viete's Theorem; Geometry of space and circles; Practical problems related to extreme values.
The exam is in line with the spirit of the 2018 education program, with more than 50% of the test material originating from real-life problems. Students need to apply calculation skills or create equations, solve equations and then draw conclusions about real-life problems.
Especially in the last question, the question starts from a very practical and necessary problem for transportation businesses, requiring students to think about modeling the problem, solving the problem and drawing conclusions.
Students may be able to solve the problem or only partially or not at all, but after reading the problem, they will understand that they can solve urgent problems in life with the knowledge they are learning.

The test was within their ability, many candidates were confident of getting 7-8 points in math (Photo: Hai Long).
This is very consistent with the spirit of the 2018 general education program, students need to improve their skills in applying mathematical knowledge to solve practical problems.
The test is moderately difficult, the questions are clear, direct, and not complicated or difficult to understand.
In question I, the topics of data statistics and probability are new knowledge appearing in this year's exam, but students can completely achieve maximum scores on these questions because the questions are given clearly, completely, and do not puzzle students.
Question II belongs to the expression section, which is a familiar basic knowledge and skills question that students have been thoroughly trained in during the school year. Idea 3 in this question is also a familiar question type, students who present it carefully will completely get enough points for this question.
Question III is a group of knowledge about solving problems by setting up equations, systems of equations and applying Viete's theorem. These are types of problems that are not new compared to previous years' questions. Students can complete these exercises by presenting each step.
In the problem of applying Viete's theorem, students may be a bit "startled" when seeing the expression given in the asymmetric form of the 2 solutions, but with just 1 transformation step, students will be able to convert the expression to the symmetric form of the 2 solutions to apply the theorem to find the satisfying value.
Question IV, part 1 is a spatial geometry problem related to the formula for calculating the area and volume of a cylinder, which is quite familiar in many self-study questions for students. Students need to remember the formula to apply it to calculate the values required by the question.
In point 2, the problem of a circle with an acute triangle inscribed inside, exploits knowledge related to heights, inscribed quadrilaterals, and angle bisectors. Average students can complete up to point b1.
To do points b2 and c, students need to apply their thinking ability along with connecting the data inferred from the previous points to prove it.
Question V is a practical problem related to extreme values that is considered very good in the question.
The entrance exam for grade 10 of non-specialized public high schools for the 2025-2026 school year in the city will take place on June 7-8.
This is the first exam organized under the 2018 general education program with the orientation of assessing learners' abilities and qualities.
With 64% of candidates selected for public high schools, the exam is highly competitive and receives great attention from society.
