Runner-up of "Global Vietnamese Singing" changes stage name, reveals idol My Linh

(Dan Tri) - The runner-up of Voice of Vietnam Global 2023, Duc Thoa, shared that she always considers singer My Linh as an artistic role model that she admires and learns from.

Once known by the stage name Cat Tien and winning the title of 1st runner-up of the 2023 Global Vietnamese Singing Contest, Duc Thoa has now chosen to pursue a professional music career with a new direction.

No longer attached to contemporary folk music - the genre that helped her make her mark - Duc Thoa switched to pop ballad, the genre she loves and feels "her own" in her career journey.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter on the occasion of launching the album Not mua in Hanoi , Duc Thoa said that using her real name marked an important turning point in her career, expressing her desire to build a sincere artist image, not relying on tricks or scandals.

“Although the name is a bit... masculine and quite special, I really like it because it is a memory of my beloved father. The name Duc Thoa was given by my father, with the wish that I always live with my heart and virtue. I want to keep that as a reminder to always be a kind person,” she confided.

When asked about inspirational artists, Duc Thoa did not hesitate to share: “I really love My Linh’s voice. She is always full of energy and constantly learning to renew herself. That makes me admire and learn from her.”

Duc Thoa also said that she was impressed by the fact that My Linh still practices her voice every day, even though she has a solid position in the music industry. “Her seriousness and progress are what I always aim for in my career,” Duc Thoa added.

Although not yet a famous name in the Vietnamese music industry, Duc Thoa chooses to work quietly but firmly. No noise, no scandal, she still regularly teaches music, practices singing and sings with all the emotions of her heart.

The singer shared that she hopes that audiences will find her music in a sustainable way, instead of creating a temporary effect. For Duc Thoa, sincerity is a long but steady path.

As a music teacher, Duc Thoa said she always attaches importance to cultivating technique and emotion in music. “I want the audience to feel the sincerity in each song, and I hope my music will be a place for them to turn to when they need empathy,” the singer said.

With the album Not mua , Duc Thoa not only marked the beginning of his professional singing career but also showed his determination to pursue a musical path seriously and long-term.

The album includes 5 songs: Not mua, Danh boi, Tinh chi rieng em, Em doi ngay mai, So, exploring the theme of love with many emotional levels. "Each song in the album touches my emotions, reflecting the emotional experiences I have gone through, from the first vibrations of life, the joy of love to sadness and heartbreak", Duc Thoa shared.
