"Messi don't break up"

That was the message on TyC Sports channel, right after Messi confirmed: "Yes, this will be a special match, very special for me, because this is the last official qualifying match at home."

"I don't know if there will be a friendly after that or more matches. But yes, this match is very special, and that's why my family will be with me, my wife, my children, my parents, my brothers and sisters, and there will be a lot of relatives on my wife's side, and we will experience it that way. After that, like I said, I don't know what will happen, but we will go into the match with that mindset. Thank you," Messi added.

Argentina will play their remaining two matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in South America in early September, including a home match against Venezuela at Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires at 6:30 a.m. on September 5, followed by an away match against Ecuador at 6:00 a.m. on September 10 (both Vietnam time). Messi and his Inter Miami teammate Rodrigo De Paul are both on Scaloni's final list.

After the South American qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup ended, Argentina, who have secured a ticket to the finals to defend their title in the United States, Mexico and Canada next summer, will no longer have any home matches scheduled.

From the beginning of 2026, Albiceleste will also begin preparations for the 2026 World Cup, including the Finalissima (Intercontinental Super Cup) championship match with Spain, scheduled to be held in Europe in March.

The 2026 World Cup is also the last major tournament in Messi's career that he is expected to compete in, at which point he will be 39 years old. After this tournament, Messi will most likely announce his decision to retire from his illustrious international career. He may even retire, as he has yet to officially sign a contract extension with Inter Miami (which expires at the end of this year). Everything is still open, according to Messi's recent statement.

However, with the official home match in the Argentina national team shirt, Messi has almost confirmed "it will be the last match", in the upcoming match against Venezuela.

Although they knew this day would come, many Argentinian fans were still shocked and in disbelief, constantly begging "Messi, don't leave," according to TyC Sports. The channel also wrote on its social media account X the message: "Never leave, captain," with a very sad emoji.

Messi has just returned to play for Inter Miami after 2 matches absent due to injury. Immediately after returning, he scored 2 goals to help Inter Miami make a spectacular comeback to defeat rival Orlando City with a score of 3-1 on August 28.

Thereby, entering the Leagues Cup final against Seattle Sounders FC at 7am on September 1st (Vietnam time) to compete for the championship. After this match, Messi returned to the Argentina national team with his family.
