Messi paled on the day Inter Miami lost 0-4 to PSG
Messi and Inter Miami just had a disappointing match and suffered a 0-4 defeat against PSG at Mercedes Benz Stadium (Atlanta, USA) on the evening of June 29. The French team did not show mercy to their former star when they scored 4 goals in the first half, causing the host country's representative to officially stop in the round of 16.

The defense was once again the weak point of coach Javier Mascherano's team. Meanwhile, Messi and the Inter Miami attack were almost suffocated and had to retreat deep into their own half to support the defense throughout the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, the team's play improved a bit, but the lack of breakthroughs was still evident. Inter Miami seemed to rely too much on Messi's moments of genius to make the difference, instead of deploying a truly effective and synchronized attacking strategy.
After the defeat, Messi acknowledged the weaknesses that David Beckham's team is facing and praised his former team, PSG: "We still have many shortcomings, of course PSG is a strong team, they participate in the tournament because they are Champions League champions and this team is really doing very well.
We expected the match and the score to be like this. Inter Miami tried their best, fought. But it was not enough. Now we have to focus on the next tournaments," Messi said after the match.

In this match, Messi only had a total of 4 shots, along with 2 dangerous opportunities for his teammates. Although he did not score or assist, he was still considered one of the most outstanding players of the team.
According to statistics from Fotmob, Messi received a score of 6.9 - the second highest in the squad - only behind compatriot midfielder Federico Redondo.
The 38-year-old superstar did not appear sad after losing to PSG. He even took the time to shake hands and chat with his former PSG teammates after the final whistle.
"I have a very good relationship with the PSG players. I always say that I am grateful for the two years I played for PSG, and the way everyone there treated me. They are a great team and it is no surprise that this team will win the Club World Cup in 2025, I wish you all the best," Messi said.

Messi left PSG in 2023 after two seasons, not believing the team was capable of competing for major European trophies. However, since his departure, PSG have won a historic treble and, most notably, the 2024-25 Champions League under coach Luis Enrique, thereby erasing the image of a flashy but ineffective team.
PSG will face Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals at Mercedes-Benz Stadium at 11pm on July 5. Meanwhile, Inter Miami will return to MLS action, facing Montreal on the morning of July 6.
