Messi eliminated early, Ronaldo maintains record at FIFA Club World Cup

(Dan Tri) - Lionel Messi was unable to equal Cristiano Ronaldo's all-time scoring record at the FIFA Club World Cup, after Inter Miami was eliminated by a 0-4 loss to PSG in the round of 16 on the morning of June 30.

Cristiano Ronaldo still holds the record for the most goals in the history of the FIFA Club World Cup, with a total of 7 goals. The Portuguese superstar first scored in the tournament in 2008 while playing for Man Utd.

In 2016, when playing for Real Madrid, Ronaldo exploded with 4 goals (winning the Golden Boot) and helped the “White Vultures” win the above tournament. Just one year later, he continued to contribute 2 goals to help Los Blancos dominate this playground.

Cristiano Ronaldo has not played at the FIFA Club World Cup since 2017, but his scoring record remains unchanged to this day, despite competition from many other stars.

His closest rivals Messi (6 goals) and Luis Suarez (5 goals) both stopped in the round of 16 of this year's tournament, closing the chance to equal or surpass the Portuguese superstar's record.

Despite receiving several invitations to participate in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Ronaldo still refused because he wanted to prepare best for the new season. The 40-year-old striker currently has 938 goals and is aiming for the 1,000-goal milestone in his peak playing career.

Ronaldo has just officially extended his contract with Al Nassr Club for another 2 years, extending his commitment until the summer of 2027. This is considered an important step to help him continue pursuing historic achievements in his illustrious career.
