Gonorrhea and genital warts after oral sex

VnExpressVnExpress23/07/2023

A 25-year-old man had painful urination and yellow pus in his urine after having oral sex with a massage therapist. The doctor diagnosed him with gonorrhea and genital warts.

At the Men's Health Center, the patient said he was sad after breaking up with his girlfriend, so he got drunk and went to a massage parlor and had sex with his girlfriend a month ago. After that, the patient discovered a hard, gray, rough, painless lump at the base of his penis. The lump looked like a mole and gradually grew larger. When unusual signs appeared in the urinary tract, the patient was worried and went to the doctor for examination.

Fresh urethral fluid examination and PCR (a gene amplification technique for diagnosing diseases) of urethral fluid showed that the patient was positive for gonorrhea and urethritis. The "mole" at the base of the penis was positive for Human Papilloma virus (HPV) type 6. This is a very common virus strain, causing papillomas, genital warts... in the genitals.

The doctor used antibiotics to treat gonorrhea and treated the "warts" with electrocautery. After a week, the patient's symptoms were gone, a fresh smear was negative for gonorrhea bacteria, and the wart wound healed. The patient was advised about safe sex, because oral sex can also transmit the disease.

Dr. Bui Quoc Cuong, Men's Health Center, said genital warts and gonorrhea are two common sexually transmitted diseases that cause many health problems.

Gonorrhea, also known as gonococcus, is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The disease often causes urethritis in men and vaginitis in women, symptoms include painful urination, painful urination, pus in urine, itching and swelling around the genital area. If not treated promptly, the disease can spread and cause serious complications such as orchitis, chronic urethritis, prostatitis, epididymitis, and even blockage of the vas deferens, leading to difficulty in having children. Gonorrhea can spread to other organs in the body, causing meningitis and arthritis.

Genital warts, also known as genital warts, are growths in the epidermis of the skin and mucous membranes caused by HPV infection. Genital warts come in many different shapes. Some cases may develop into swellings that resemble a cock's comb. These swellings may have sharp, serrated wings like a "cock's comb", or be finger-shaped, thin, and soft.

This is a common virus in sexually transmitted diseases, can be spread through sexual intercourse or contact with skin or objects containing the virus. In women, if infected with high-risk types, it can cause cervical cancer.

Doctors recommend regular health check-ups, including genital examinations and tests to detect gonorrhea and genital warts early. If you have any suspicious symptoms such as painful urination, swelling or the appearance of "strange spots" around the genitals, see a doctor immediately for timely examination and treatment.

Do not shave your pubic hair because it can easily scratch the skin, creating conditions for HPV to penetrate and cause genital warts. The most important thing in controlling and preventing the spread of gonorrhea and genital warts is proper protection during sex, such as using condoms to reduce the risk of infection.
