Quang Ngai: Warning of bridge collapse risk, fishermen asked not to anchor boats to Thanh Duc bridge pier

On July 18, Mr. Nguyen Viet Thanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Sa Huynh Ward, said that the locality had issued a document directing functional forces to coordinate inspections, compile a list of fishing vessels in violation, and require owners of the vessels to sign a commitment not to anchor in the Thanh Duc bridge area.

Thach Duc Bridge has degraded but at the foot of the bridge many fishing boats are anchored and tied to the bridge, causing the risk of the bridge collapsing.

Thanh Duc Bridge was built more than 20 years ago, more than 405m long. Currently, the bridge has seriously degraded: many pillars are cracked, the structure is weakened, and the bridge spans show signs of collapse. Meanwhile, the habit of fishermen tying boats to the bridge pillars increases the risk of damage and collapse.

It is known that Quang Ngai province has invested in building a new Thanh Duc bridge about 500m north of the old bridge. Currently, the project is in the final stages of completion.
