According to information from the team, center back Ly Duc did not participate in the training session on the evening of July 23 of U23 Vietnam due to an ankle injury. The HAGL player was given complete rest at the hotel by the coaching staff, with the hope of recovering in time for the semi-final match against U23 Philippines.
Previously, in the final group stage match against Cambodia on July 22, Ly Duc suffered an ankle problem just before kick-off. He still tried to play and scored the opening goal, before having to leave the field after a strong collision with an opposing player. The injury was later confirmed to be more serious than expected, leaving the possibility of this central defender playing in the semi-finals still uncertain.
In that context, U23 Vietnam continues to have serious preparations for the semi-final match. The technical analysis team studies the video of U23 Philippines' matches to come up with a countermeasure. Midfielder Nguyen Xuan Bac shared: "We will have a reasonable approach, not only focusing on naturalized players but also playing with the goal of neutralizing their entire tactical system."
U23 Philippines is considered an unpredictable opponent with disciplined play and many quality naturalized players. This will be a real test for both the mettle and ability of U23 Vietnam, especially in the context of losing one of the pillars in the defense.
The semi-final match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Philippines will take place at 4:00 p.m. on July 25.
