The oath of independence speaks of mountains and rivers

Written on National Day

Báo Đắk LắkBáo Đắk Lắk27/08/2025

Like sweet rain seeping deep into the ground

Like a cool stream flowing to the sea

Million hearts share love for the Fatherland

Wrote the history of my country.

Since the time when people "carried swords to open up new lands"

From Phu Bach Dang to Cao Binh Ngo

Forever there echoes the soul of the mountains and rivers

Vietnam, a thousand years of swords and spears written into poetry.

A nation of thousands of years fighting against natural disasters and enemies

Even though small, he never bowed his head.

This S letter leans on the ocean

The Lac Hong lineage will last forever…

Break all shackles and chains

Barefoot through the brutal night of slavery

Blood stains the national flag

Many generations of people fell but still stood tall.

Today in front of the windy square

The sunshine is as bright as cheers

I hear the echo of the Oath of Independence

Has become the heroic spirit of the country.

Generation after generation

Father taught his son the song of his homeland

"The Wind of the Times" Turns a New Page of History

Write great things in ordinary life

The keeper of the country, the builder of the country

Guns guard the border, fire warms every home

More open arms of integration

Connecting neighbors and friends near and far

Oh country of thousands of years of history

Still full of life in my twenties

Because there are you and many young people

Building and beautifying life.

I walk through the busy streets

The autumn sun is brilliant with the flying flags

Hear the heart beat with happiness

Thanks for yesterday and today.

Not with fiery slogans or noisy declarations, the poem “Written on National Day” begins with a gentle, passionate and profound tone like sweet rain seeping into the soul, like a cool stream flowing through the chaos of the times. It is the patriotism imbued in the hearts of millions of people that has written the heroic history of the country.

Right from the opening stanza, the reader is drawn into a quiet and pure poetic space. The images of “sweet rain” and “spring” are not only symbols of steadfast and enduring patriotism, but also poetic metaphors for the everlasting values that nourish the national soul. Each patriotic heart is a drop of cool water, together creating an ocean of history that never dries up: “Like sweet rain seeping deep into the ground/ Like a cool spring flowing to the sea/ Millions of hearts sharing the love for the Fatherland/ Have written the history of my country”.

Continuing the flow of proud emotions and profound poetic voice, from the second to the fourth stanza, the author brings readers back to the roots of the nation, to the heroic history of our ancestors from the time of opening the country, "from Phu Bach Dang to Cao Binh Ngo". The verse "Vietnam has been written into poetry for a thousand years by swords and spears" is enough to awaken all the most sacred memories in the hearts of Vietnamese people. History is not only the feats recorded in books, but also the inspiring stories passed down with the sacred soul of the mountains and rivers when the whole nation had to face natural disasters and fierce enemies: "The nation has fought against natural disasters and fierce enemies for a thousand years/ Although small, it refuses to bow its head/ Here the letter S leans on the ocean/ The Lac Hong lineage is passed down to future generations...".

It is the glorious past, "many generations of people still standing tall" that today builds the shape of the Fatherland. In particular, from the fifth stanza, the poem suddenly changes its tone: from the quiet feelings before the heroic and fiery pages of history, the whole nation steps into a radiant present opening before our eyes with overwhelming joy and boundless pride in the Ho Chi Minh era: "Today, in front of the windy Square / The golden sunlight is like cheers of joy / I hear the echo of the oath of independence / Has become the heroic spirit of the country".

The oath of independence that once resounded on the historic Ba Dinh Square is now not only a memory but has become a sacred spirit converging in the heart of the country. That spirit will forever spread, permeating every vein of land and blood of the Vietnamese people: "Previous generations, future generations continue/ Fathers teach their children the song of their homeland/ The wind of the times turns a new page of history/ Writing great things in the ordinary life...".

This is a poem imbued with humanity, imbued with the author's thoughts and life experiences. In the midst of a turbulent era, the poet still sees the sacred transfer from father to son - from the past to the present. The seemingly simple folk songs turn into a flame that preserves tradition. "The wind of the times" does not sweep away the origin but opens up new horizons - where great things are written not only with blood but also with sweat, labor and dreams of integration: "The one who guards the country, the one who builds the country / Guns guard the border, fire warms every home / More open arms of integration / Connecting neighbors, friends near and far".

The poem ends with a clear, bright echo like the autumn sunlight on the deep blue sky. The lyrical character walks on the bustling streets and feels his heart filled with happiness, awakening so many things from the past echoing back on the sacred National Day. Thank you to the past for its sacrifices, thank you to the present for its preservation, and thank you to the future that is being nurtured every day by young, enthusiastic hands. The country does not only live in books, it is also shown in every look, smile, heart and action of people today.

The poem does not use many artistic techniques, does not use flowery words to express emotions. The beauty of the poem is the pouring out of one's heart to express love and pride for the country and the nation on the sacred National Day. The poem is like a journey - from the origin to the present, from the heroic spirit to the everyday life, from the eyes of the deceased to the simple dreams of the living. And the author has sent a gentle message: be grateful for yesterday, live beautifully today, so that tomorrow we can also proudly continue writing the pages of history with our own lives.
