Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) has just issued an urgent dispatch requesting agencies and units within the Corporation to immediately deploy urgent measures to respond to storm No. 5 (international name: storm Kajiki), ensuring safety for people, property, constructions and maintaining continuous flight operations services.
Accordingly, VATM requested the Aviation Meteorological Center to increase the frequency and quality of forecast bulletins, promptly issue airport warnings and warnings of dangerous weather phenomena for flight operations; closely coordinate with the National Meteorological Forecasting Agency and related agencies to provide accurate and timely information.
VATM also noted that air traffic service providers, including Hanoi Air Traffic Control Center, Ho Chi Minh Air Traffic Control Center and related flight operations facilities, must prepare and flexibly implement flight operation regulation plans before, during and after the storm; coordinate with airlines to forecast the throughput capacity of airports and airspace.
"Prepare plans for waiting flights and changing airports; handle separation due to weather effects; strengthen coordination with military units to ensure safe and smooth flight operations; proactively develop operational plans in the areas," the document stated.
In addition, VATM requested the Northern and Central Air Traffic Management Companies to closely coordinate with port authorities and airports to provide flexible services according to the situation of closing or opening operations at airports. The Southern Air Traffic Management Company closely followed the development of storm circulation and deployed response plans appropriate to the actual weather conditions.
The Air Traffic Flow Management Center closely monitors flight operations to adjust flow management plans; areas at risk of being affected, especially the North and Central regions, must make plans early to avoid congested flights and waiting flights; pay attention to ensuring transit flight permits when adjusting flight paths to avoid storms.
In addition, VATM requires units to review evacuation plans, ensure safety for officers and employees at key locations; check communication and operation systems to ensure smooth operation; in case weather affects technical equipment, it is necessary to coordinate and agree on a plan to stop or turn off the equipment, and at the same time prepare an alternative flight operation plan.
