In the group stage of the 2025 Southeast Asian U.19 Women's Championship, the Vietnam U.19 Women's Team showed their superiority by winning all 3 matches and earning the right to enter the semi-finals as the top team in Group A. Coach Okiyama Masahiko and his team defeated Myanmar 2-0 in the opening match, then won 2 extremely big victories: 6-0 against Timor Leste and 8-0 against Laos. The 8-0 victory of the Vietnam U.19 Women's Team was also the match with the biggest difference in score since the beginning of the tournament.

The smooth passage through the group stage boosted the morale of the young Vietnamese girls before entering the important semi-final match against the Indonesian U.19 women's team. Indonesian football has recently been considered a regional rival to Vietnam. However, in terms of women's football, Vietnamese girls are still rated higher, both at the national team and youth levels. The Indonesian U.19 women's team entered the semi-finals as the second team in Group B, with 1 win (4-0 against Malaysia), 1 draw (1-1 against Cambodia) and 1 loss (1-6 against Thailand). It can be said that the Vietnamese U.19 women's team is facing the opportunity to reach the final for the 4th consecutive time, after 4 times the Southeast Asian U.19 women's tournament was held (in 2014, 2022, 2023 and 2025).

After 3 matches in the group stage that were not too tense, the U.19 women's team of Vietnam had the best preparation. Coach Okiyama Masahiko had enough time to rotate the players, experiment with many tactical schemes with different people, thereby finding the best solution for the match with the U.19 women's team of Indonesia. Coach Masahiko said that he and the coaching staff had completed the goals set in the group stage, both in terms of results and long-term calculations when the U.19 women's team went far. However, the Japanese coach said that the U.19 women's team of Vietnam still had issues that needed improvement. "After 3 group stage matches, the Vietnamese women's U.19 team scored 16 goals and did not concede any. However, in addition to the goals, we also created many good opportunities, but the players could not take full advantage of them to put the ball into the opponent's net. The Vietnamese players need to improve their finishing skills," said Mr. Masahiko, while also assessing the opponent in the semi-finals: "The Indonesian women's U.19 team has many tall players, runs well and has a clear playing style." Mr. Masahiko was especially cautious when his counterpart on the other side of the battle line is also Japanese (coach Akira Higashiyama), who is good at tactics and understands the opponent.

What did the coach of U.19 Indonesia say about U.19 Vietnam?

Meanwhile, the head coach of the Indonesian U.19 women's team - Akira Higashiyama commented: "Vietnam's women's football is among the top in the continent. However, we are ready and will play our best against the Vietnamese U.19 women's team, a team with home field advantage. The Indonesian U.19 women's team has quality players and they have shown significant progress through each match. In the semi-final, we will play at Thong Nhat Stadium with good grass and will try to win."

The remaining match of the semi-finals of the 2025 Southeast Asian U.19 Women's Championship is the competition between Thailand and Myanmar at 3:00 p.m. today at Thong Nhat Stadium. Similar to Vietnam, the team from the land of the golden pagoda also showed dominance in the group stage when winning 9 absolute points and scoring 17 goals.
