Village producing flowers priced at 500,000 VND/branch wins Tet season

Gardeners win Tet season when orchids cost 500,000 VND/branch and are in high demand ( Video : Van Minh).

In the days leading up to Tet, Mr. Dang Van Hung's family (Xuan Truong commune, Da Lat city) is busy taking care of 3,000 pots of cymbidium orchids to deliver them nationwide.

According to Mr. Hung, all the trees in the garden have bloomed evenly and beautifully, ready to meet market demand for the Lunar New Year 2025.

Cymbidium, a flower species originating from Japan, is considered a high-class flower with high economic value. To ensure the flowers bloom in time for Tet, Mr. Hung's family has applied technical care measures since the end of June 2024.

“This Tet, we will cut branches to sell to customers and send them in pots to major partners in Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, and Hai Phong. Potted flowers usually have 3-5 branches, each branch costs 450,000-500,000 VND. For cut branches, the market price is 35,000-70,000 VND/branch,” Mr. Hung shared.

Mr. Hung's family expects to earn a profit of more than 300 million VND from this year's Tet flower crop.

In Xuan Truong commune, Mr. Pham Van Nhuong’s family is also selecting pots of 3-5 branches of orchids to sell for Tet. Mr. Nhuong said that purchasing facilities require flower pots to have at least 3 branches and the flowers must remain fresh for 30 days.

Mr. Nhuong's family produces cut orchids to serve the market in the last months of the year, supplying about 2,000 branches each month to purchasing facilities in Da Lat and neighboring provinces.

“This Tet, my family provided our partners with about 100 pots of cymbidium orchids at a price of 350,000-400,000 VND/branch,” Mr. Nhuong shared.

Mr. Pham Van Dung, Vice Chairman of Xuan Truong Commune People's Committee, said that the locality has 15 households growing cymbidium orchids with a total area of about 5 hectares. For the Lunar New Year 2025, the locality will supply hundreds of cymbidium pots and tens of thousands of branches to serve the needs of vases and decoration.

“Cymbidium orchids originate from Japan, and were imported by local people and developed in Xuan Truong commune 10 years ago. This is a high-class flower with high economic value, and the locality encourages local people to develop it,” Mr. Pham Van Dung shared.

According to Mr. Lai The Hung, Vice President of Da Lat Flower Association, Lam Dong province has 750 hectares of potted flowers of all kinds such as cymbidiums, phalaenopsis orchids, lilies, roses, chrysanthemums, etc. In the 2025 Lunar New Year crop, Lam Dong will supply the market with millions of pots of all kinds of flowers.

Along with potted flowers, this year's Lunar New Year crop, the whole province planted about 1,650 hectares of cut flowers of all kinds, mainly concentrated in Da Lat city and neighboring districts such as Don Duong, Lac Duong, Lam Ha, Duc Trong.
