Spreading green lifestyle through practical actions

In recent years, environmental protection in the province has received increasing attention from all levels, sectors and the entire population. In particular, many creative and effective models and methods have emerged, demonstrating the spirit of self-awareness and responsibility of the people in contributing to preserving the landscape, creating a green, clean, beautiful and impressive environment in the hearts of tourists and people.

Every Sunday morning, at public places such as Dinh Tien Hoang De Square, Thuy Son Park, Van River bank... the image of young people wearing green volunteer shirts, diligently picking up trash and cleaning the landscape has become familiar to city residents.

They are members of the Ninh Binh Green Club, a volunteer organization that brings together more than 200 union members, youth, students, cadres, civil servants and public employees from many agencies, units and of different ages in the province.

They come to the Club voluntarily, with the same spirit and responsibility for the living environment and the desire to contribute to building a civilized and clean Ninh Binh in the eyes of tourists and people.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Dang, Chairman of Ninh Binh Green Club shared: “We do not simply pick up trash but want to spread a green lifestyle, contributing to raising community awareness in maintaining public hygiene. When each person changes a small behavior such as throwing trash in the right place, there will be a big change. Since its establishment, Ninh Binh Green Club has organized hundreds of environmental cleaning campaigns at tourist attractions, parks, riverbanks, streets, traditional markets, Con Noi beach... Each week, members collect from 100-150kg of all kinds of waste. After collection, the trash will be classified and treated appropriately, in which recycled trash is sold to raise funds for planting trees or supporting volunteer activities.

In addition to trash collection activities, the Club also organizes programs such as "Exchange trash for trees", communication and propaganda on environmental protection, cleaning cemeteries, cultural houses, painting propaganda murals, etc.

Pham Thu Ha, a student at Hoa Lu University and a club member, shared: “Every time I participate in the club’s activities, I love my city more. Cleaning a road or a lawn makes me feel the positive changes. I will promote and mobilize more students to participate.”

Besides the volunteer youth force, the Women's Union at all levels in the province also has many practical and effective models and methods in environmental protection, building new rural areas and civilized urban areas.

In Khanh Thanh commune, Yen Khanh district, the models of “Clean house, beautiful garden” and “Waste treatment with biological products” have been actively and effectively implemented by women. There is no longer the scene of littering, causing environmental pollution and loss of aesthetics. Now the rural villages are increasingly green, clean, beautiful, becoming livable countrysides.

Ms. Hoang Thi Tuyet, President of the Women's Union of Khanh Thanh Commune, shared: Each household is instructed to classify waste at source, and use organic waste to compost vegetables and fruits. At first, some people were hesitant, but when they saw that every household implementing the model was neat, clean, with fresh vegetables and fruits and a clean environment, everyone followed suit. From a few dozen households at first, up to now, the whole commune has had more than 740 households participating, and the amount of waste collected in residential areas has decreased by 50-70% every year compared to before, saving billions of VND for the locality in waste treatment and transportation.

In Hoa Lu city, the model of "People's market to limit plastic waste" is being implemented in many wards and communes. Typically, at Thanh Binh market (Ninh Son ward), more than 100 traders have signed a commitment to limit the use of disposable plastic bags and switch to using environmentally friendly packaging. In addition, the Women's Union at all levels has built many "Green Houses" - places to collect recyclable waste such as cans, plastic bottles, and scrap paper. This waste is sold to raise funds to support poor students overcoming difficulties, poor members, orphans, and people with disabilities, etc.

From the specific, practical actions of young people in the Ninh Binh Green Club to the creative, sustainable models of the Women's Union at all levels... all are contributing to making clear changes in the appearance of the living environment in Ninh Binh.

In order for these activities to be maintained in the long term and spread widely, the synchronous participation of all levels, sectors, localities and all people is needed. Every small action, every practical work for the environment such as not littering, using environmentally friendly products, planting more trees, sorting garbage at home... are important contributions to building Ninh Binh homeland to be increasingly green, clean, beautiful and civilized in the hearts of people and tourists.
