Director Hoang Nam's "The Soul Lamp" is on the list of 12 works competing in the Vietnamese Film category, within the framework of the 3rd Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF III). When asked about his expectations for his first film, the filmmaker shared: "From the perspective of a 'contestant', since I have entered the competition, I have always wanted to win an award, to have some achievement. But that is only my wish, and of course the film will have to compete with works created by many long-standing names in the profession."

The 41-year-old director added: "Therefore, I just 'manifest' (attract what I want by thinking and believing it will come true - PV) in the hope that my efforts will be recognized by the jury and will take care of a new member of the film industry."

Before competing at DANAFF III, The Dark Souls had been involved in many controversies, but director Hoang Nam was not afraid that it would affect the results of this film festival. The 8X filmmaker admitted that the previous controversies and criticisms only affected him. Hoang Nam shared that he felt that he had tried very hard and that this was his first time making a film so he was not used to those reactions. "But regarding the results of this film festival, I believe that the jury members are very fair because they are all prestigious names from both the country and internationally," the director added.

Regarding the fact that The Ghost Lamp has to compete with 5 other horror and spiritual works in the Vietnamese Film category, director Hoang Nam said he is not pressured but feels happy because each film has a different color. "And The Ghost Lamp is a completely different color, in which there are many elements of Vietnamese folk culture, so I am also a bit confident. I am confident that I will be one of the 'flowers' in the rich and attractive 'flower garden' and hope that the result will satisfy everyone, not only in terms of artistic quality but also in terms of audience taste," he added.

Director Hoang Nam also shared that having a film competing at the Da Nang Asian Film Festival is a valuable and meaningful opportunity for a young filmmaker like him. "I think DANAFF is an extremely valuable opportunity for me, especially when I have just released my first film and really need a lot of connections so that people can support and help me in my next works. I have also connected with many filmmakers from the US, Korea and especially the seniors in the Vietnamese film industry whose works I have only seen before. That makes me feel extremely confident and have more advice and guidance so that my next products will be more solid", the 8X filmmaker confided.

Just a few months after releasing his debut work, director Hoang Nam revealed a series of new projects at an event within the framework of DANAFF on the evening of July 1. The filmmaker shared that he was very surprised by the success of Soul Lamp at the Vietnamese box office, helping him to be remembered as a director who earned hundreds of billions in revenue from his first film. The filmmaker is grateful for the support from the audience and believes that the best reward is to create better works for the audience.

"Maybe it will be a lot of pressure for many people, but for me, the success of Ghost Lights makes me more confident, because I have many stories to tell everyone in different genres. In my mind now, there is only one thought: how to make the next work better than the previous one, to overcome what was not good in the first work," the 41-year-old director added.

On this occasion, Hoang Nam also added more information about the new project that, when making a film, he only hopes to tell the story he wants to tell. "But everyone also told me that the mission of this second film will definitely be to show everyone that the first film was not a matter of luck... I hope that through the first product, everyone knows my style, my thinking, then no matter what genre I make in the second film, I will still maintain that thinking and style," said the 8X filmmaker.
