In the national democratic revolution, the policy of "freedom of belief and solidarity between religions" proposed by President Ho Chi Minh contributed greatly to the cause of building great national unity, promoting combined strength, and mobilizing people across the country to participate in the victorious resistance.

The formation and development of State management agencies on religion is one of the correct steps of our Party and State in the process of building a society of freedom of belief and religion according to the Constitution and law; contributing to consolidating and promoting the great national unity bloc; maintaining national security and defense, and developing the economy and society.

Consolidation to promote the role of state management agencies on religion

70 years ago, on August 2, 1955, the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) issued Decree No. 566/TTg establishing the Religious Affairs Committee under the Prime Minister's Office. This is the predecessor of the Government Religious Affairs Committee, the first milestone in the formation of the current State management sector on religion.

Accordingly, to promote the role and tradition of the State management sector on religion, on May 27, 2005, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 445/QD-TTg on taking August 2 every year as the traditional day of the State management sector on religion.

After 70 years of formation and development (August 2, 1955 - August 2, 2025), the State management of religious activities has created great changes in religious life in our country; religious activities comply with the law, promoting positive values in the social life of the people.

On July 1, 2025, the entire political system of the country unanimously carried out a "revolution" that is considered a comprehensive restructuring from territorial space to institutions, apparatus, people, etc. - that is the official operation of the 2-level local government organization model. In which, the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Tay Ninh province was established from the merger of the Ethnic Minorities and Religions Committee under the Department of Home Affairs of Long An province (old) and the Department of Religion and Ethnic Minorities under the Department of Home Affairs of Tay Ninh province (old).

The establishment of a new State management organization for religious activities contributes to the strict management of religious activities in the area, and at the same time becomes the liaison between religions and the State. Thereby, creating all conditions for religions in the area to operate smoothly, promoting the positive values of religion in social life and building and developing the province and the country.

After merging the two provinces of Long An and Tay Ninh (old), the new Tay Ninh province has 11 religions (Cao Dai, Buddhism, Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam, Pure Land Buddhist Lay Association of Vietnam, Baha'I, Hoa Hao Buddhism, Buu Son Ky Huong, Minh Ly Dao - Tam Tong Mieu, Minh Su Dao); 4 religious organizations, 368 affiliated religious organizations, 923 religious establishments with more than 5,600 dignitaries, more than 12,000 officials and nearly 1,277,000 followers, accounting for 39.24% of the province's population.

Promoting the glorious tradition of the State management of religion

Following the country's development over the past years, under the leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels, many policies, guidelines and policies of the Party, policies and laws of the State on religion have been issued, contributing to the ideological orientation of religions and religious followers, creating a connection between the State and religious organizations and affiliated religious organizations.

With the efforts of the religious staff of the two provinces of Long An and Tay Ninh (old), after the merger, the religious situation in the area was generally stable; religious activities took place in accordance with the law and were put into order.

Religious dignitaries, officials, and followers are enthusiastic and confident in the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws; especially the work of resolving the legitimate operational needs of religious organizations is met in accordance with the law.

With a solid foundation, the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Tay Ninh province was established as an organization to inherit and promote the glorious tradition of State management of religion of the two old localities.

In the coming time, the Department will continue to coordinate with relevant agencies and local authorities to grasp the situation of religious activities; guide and create conditions for religious organizations, dignitaries, officials, and followers to operate in accordance with the law, charter, and regulations of the church.

The focus is on guiding Islam to organize the Congress of the Provincial Islamic Community (term 2025-2030) and important religious ceremonies: Cao Dai Tay Ninh organizes the Great Festival of Yen Dieu Tri Palace, the anniversary of the Great Religion's Propagation; Buddhism organizes the An Cu Kiet Ha retreat, the Vu Lan ceremony to show gratitude; Catholicism and Protestantism organize Christmas, etc.

The Department promptly considers and resolves documents related to the legitimate and legal needs of religious organizations and individuals for religious activities in accordance with the law; organizes training courses for officials and civil servants working in religious affairs at all levels in the province.

At the same time, actively coordinate with all levels and sectors to mobilize religious and ethnic compatriots to actively participate in patriotic emulation movements, socio-economic development, and ensure security and national defense in the locality./.

The Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Tay Ninh province was issued by the Provincial People's Committee with Regulations on functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure according to Official Dispatch No. 09/2025/QD-UBND dated July 3, 2025; it is a specialized agency under the Provincial People's Committee with 22 functions and tasks.
