On August 20, the ASEAN Committee in Vienna (ACV) solemnly held the 58th Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with the participation of Ambassadors and Representatives of 8 ASEAN countries with representative offices in Vienna (Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam).
Attending and speaking at the Ceremony were representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria, leaders of United Nations agencies and other international organizations in Vienna, diplomatic corps, businesses, scholars, students and the ASEAN community living and working in Austria.
In his opening speech, Mr. U Min Thein, Ambassador of Myanmar and current Chairman of ACV, emphasized the special significance of the anniversary, while affirming that ASEAN always maintains solidarity and promotes its central role in regional and global cooperation.
The Myanmar Ambassador affirmed that ACV will continue to promote its important role as a bridge between ASEAN and international organizations based in Vienna as well as relations with the host country Austria. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim delivered a video message of congratulations from Malaysia - the 2025 ASEAN Chair, emphasizing the theme of inclusive and sustainable ASEAN, sharing progress, leaving no one behind, pledging to continue supporting dialogue, building trust, multilateralism, for peace , stability, and prosperity in the region and the world.

On behalf of the Austrian Foreign Minister, Ms. Hannah Liko, Director General for Political Affairs , Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria, sent warm congratulations.
Ms. Hannah Liko affirmed that Austria always attaches importance to multi-faceted cooperation with ASEAN - one of the most dynamically developing regions in the world, expressed her willingness to be a bridge to promote the good strategic partnership between ASEAN and the European Union (EU) and said that Austria will join the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).
Leaders of United Nations agencies and international organizations in Vienna, including the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations Organization on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), also delivered congratulatory speeches and highly appreciated ASEAN's role in promoting a culture of dialogue, building trust and cooperation, contributing to maintaining peace, security and sustainable development.
Notably, the UNODC representative praised Vietnam's active and responsible role in hosting the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, which will take place in Hanoi on October 25-26; CTBTO thanked Vietnam for warmly welcoming CTBTO Executive Secretary Robert Floyd and successfully organizing the East Asia Workshop on National Data Centers (NDC).

The celebration atmosphere was made more exciting with the performance of traditional costumes of ASEAN, showing the diverse beauty of each member country.
In addition, guests can also visit booths displaying typical products and enjoy the unique cuisine of ASEAN countries through a rich buffet, contributing to spreading the cultural identity of the region.
This year's celebration was organized by AVC on the premises of the Vienna International Conference Center - home to the offices of the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, attracting the attention and participation of many guests from all countries around the world.
Through this, ASEAN countries wish to affirm to international friends about a united, trustworthy and active ASEAN, while highlighting the image of a community united in diversity, cohesion, dynamism, and readiness to join hands with partners for peace and sustainable development.
