Thousands of Snowballs Wash Up on Beach

VTC NewsVTC News02/11/2023

In 2017, Yuryi Shahov was walking in the Gulf of Finland, northwest Russia, when she accidentally recorded a scene of thousands of snowballs floating on the water. These snowballs were quite similar in size and had a milky white color.

The phenomenon is so bizarre that at first glance, one would think the Bay Area was being used as a filming location for a sci-fi blockbuster, or that someone was making snowballs just to prank others.

This unique scene was posted on social media by Ms. Yuryi and attracted a lot of attention.

Many people were amazed by this strange natural phenomenon. Some people living around the area discovered the snowball and came to see it.

Some people have a rather strange opinion that these are whale eggs, while whales give birth to live young, not lay eggs. No one knows the origin of these snowballs. Most people are afraid because this is a phenomenon that causes environmental pollution and affects the ecosystem of the area.

Later, local paleontologist Ilya Leukhin explained the phenomenon. Ilya said that these snowballs, which are up to 17cm in diameter, could be created from oil wells.

According to his explanation, the oil spilled on the sea stuck to floating ice blocks. Gradually, the ice blocks broke apart, creating countless large and small ice cubes in the water, which were eroded by the waves into quite similar shapes.

Many scientists believe that the temperature, ice structure, ocean currents, and snow pellets have created this scene. (Photo: Dailymail)

Some other researchers believe that the most likely possibility is that it is due to the skillful combination of temperature, ice structure and ocean currents that these snowballs formed this scene.

Since then, many explanations have been given and sound very reasonable, but no one has an exact answer as to what happened.
