In Quang Khe, livelihood projects on mulberry cultivation and silkworm raising under the national target program on sustainable poverty reduction are assessed by local people and residents as bringing great efficiency. The project is implemented with the participation of 22 households. Each month, on average, households harvest 2 batches of cocoons, bringing in an income of 8 - 13 million VND/month/household. These models not only help people escape poverty but also create stable jobs on the spot, helping them to be proactive in production.
According to Ms. H'Liem, Ma ethnic group, Quang Khe commune, she is one of the first people in the locality to develop the profession of growing mulberry and raising silkworms. After more than 3 years of maintaining the profession, she finds that this is the right decision because the family can take advantage of the land to grow mulberry and raise silkworms. Raising silkworms does not require too difficult techniques, just need to be diligent and careful to have a relatively stable and regular income, so the family can ensure monthly living expenses.
Mr. Mai Van Tung - Chairman of Quang Khe Commune People's Committee said that growing mulberry and raising silkworms is a suitable choice for the natural conditions and production practices of the people here. In particular, the households selected to participate are all those who really have the need and the will to rise up. That is what has contributed to the actual effectiveness of the program. Mr. Tung affirmed that, along with the initiative of the people, the role of the grassroots political system is very important in guiding and accompanying the model building. In particular, the Party Committee and the grassroots government assign specific heads and teams in charge to regularly urge, inspect, and grasp the situation with activities to connect and create stable development steps for the mulberry growing and silkworm raising profession of the people. Thanks to that, creating a specific effective spread, people proactively learn and follow to reduce poverty, creating a stable source of income for their families.
Thanks to the unexpected results, many households have not only escaped poverty but also developed production on a larger and more sustainable scale, gradually forming concentrated production areas.
Currently, Quang Khe commune has over 200 households growing mulberry and raising silkworms, with an area of over 100 hectares, concentrated in hamlets 8, 7, 3, Tan Tien and Dak Lang. In addition, many households have converted ineffective land areas to specialize in growing mulberry leaves, supplying silkworm households in the localities.
