Dawn in Hanh Phuc commune, Lao Cai province - Photo: VU NGOC THIEN
Hanh Phuc commune belongs to Lao Cai province, established on the basis of merging Tram Tau town, Xa Ho commune, Hat Luu commune and Ban Cong commune (formerly belonging to Yen Bai province).
The attraction of Hanh Phuc commune
The new name, both familiar and strange, attracts the attention of tourists when learning about the Northwest mountainous region. Among them is photographer Vu Ngoc Thien. He came to Hanh Phuc commune on a day in July, and captured beautiful moments that touched the hearts of many passionate travelers .
Vu Ngoc Thien told Tuoi Tre Online that the trip to Hanh Phuc commune originated from the desire to conquer Hang Te Cho waterfall in Lang Nhi commune - one of the "four great dead lands" of the Northwest in the former Yen Bai province.
“However, when I arrived here, I was surprised and attracted by the new name of the commune Hanh Phuc. I decided to take a series of photos of this place early in the morning, from 6:30 to 8:30.
Early morning is the time when the light is soft and fresh, making the image more sparkling and special than other times of the day. The photo also becomes more beautiful and clearer" - Mr. Ngoc Thien shared.

The moment of catching the precious light
Photographer Vu Ngoc Thien has visited Lao Cai province many times for travel, photography, backpacking, hiking (a form of outdoor sports activity, people participate in hiking)... and this is the third time he has visited Hanh Phuc commune. The previous two times he came to participate in Ta Xua mountain climbing activities and charity activities at Ban Cong Boarding School.
He said that now the roads are more convenient and easier to travel than before, so traveling to shooting locations is not difficult. On the other hand, he also researched the shooting locations in advance so that he would not waste much time searching.
I have taken many photo sets in Ha Giang (now Tuyen Quang), Son La, Lao Cai… Because I have traveled a lot and taken a lot of photos, I have a special affection for this Northwestern region. It is an indescribable feeling when holding a camera to capture the natural scenery and people there.

Photographer Vu Ngoc Thien said he had seen many beautiful photo collections of the Northwest mountains. To make a difference, he chose to rely more on beautiful moments and precious light than on choosing the frame.
“The curves of the terraced fields, the happy smiles of the children… all these moments appear as naturally as possible, there is no setup element in this photo series.
With the new name of Hanh Phuc commune in the transitional period of the country when the merger of localities was just implemented since the beginning of July, I also want to take this moment to describe this new change. The light of a new day as well as the beginning of a new future awaits" - Mr. Ngoc Thien confided.
Vu Ngoc Thien, born in 1989, is a freelance photographer, from Thai Binh (now Hung Yen). He specializes in landscape and travel photography.
From a bank officer (graduated from Banking Academy), Vu Ngoc Thien quit his job to pursue his passion, to travel to more places, to capture the natural scenery as well as the culture and people of Vietnam.
