For many years, the C00 combination (Literature, History, Geography) has been a familiar choice for many candidates pursuing the Social Sciences block. However, this year's admission season, some universities announced that they would stop enrolling in the traditional C00 combination, replacing it with combinations that include English or Natural Sciences.

This change is causing many students and parents to worry about the new enrollment trend and the future of Social Sciences subjects in the context of universityeducation reform.

In 2025, Hanoi Open University will recruit students for the majors of Law, Economic Law, and International Law with the following admission combinations: D01 (Math, Literature, English), C01 (Math, Literature, Physics), C03 (Math, Literature, History), C14 (Math, Literature, Economic and Legal Education) and will not recruit combination C00 as in previous years.

Sharing about the decision not to use this combination, Director of the Center for Communication and Admissions, Master Do Ngoc Anh said that during the training process, the school realized the need to have certain similarities in student input to improve the quality of training. With the four admission combinations above, all have 2 subjects: Math and Literature, which are basic subjects, so many candidates will have the opportunity to register for admission to Hanoi Open University. All decisions have the participation and advice of the training science council to ensure compliance with reality. Moreover, according to the admission regulations, the admission score is not considered according to each combination or method, so ensuring fairness in admission for candidates is very necessary.

Similarly, this year is the first time that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi has decided to eliminate the C00 combination in the admissions process for 17 majors. Instead, the school uses combinations with English subjects such as D14 (Literature, History, English), D15 (Literature, Geography, English), D66 (Literature, Civic Education, English). In 2024, the school will consider the C00 combination for 26/28 majors; this year, there are only 9 majors.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the reason is that 2025 is the first year of the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 general education program. According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates taking the graduation exam will take two compulsory subjects: Literature, Mathematics and two elective subjects from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12, including: Foreign languages, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology. With such a new exam format, in theory, it is possible to encode 36 graduation exam combinations (2+2) and 81 university entrance exam combinations based on the combination of compulsory and elective subjects of candidates.

Based on the orientation of innovation in high school exam subjects applied from 2025, according to the admission requirements of each major, the requirements on foreign language output standards according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, the school also implements a strategy to internationalize training programs. Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong said that full-time students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have the opportunity to study a second major, not only in the training majors of the school, but can also choose many other training majors of member schools of Hanoi National University.

According to parents' feedback, for 12th graders, any adjustment at the final stage will cause disruption, because they have been reviewing according to the orientation from the beginning of the year, even from previous years.

Not only Hanoi Open University, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Hanoi National University), many other training institutions such as the University of Law (Hanoi National University) also announced to stop using the C00 combination for admission this year, instead using compulsory combinations of Math or English; The Academy of Journalism and Communication also no longer uses the C00 combination in two popular methods: considering academic records and considering high school graduation exam scores. However, this combination is still maintained in the admission method combined with international certificates.

The sudden announcement by some universities to change the admission combination while the high school graduation exam is approaching has caused many candidates to fall into a state of anxiety and confusion. Nguyen Phuong Anh, a 12th grade student at Doan Ket High School (Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi) shared: “Since grade 10, I have decided to apply for combination C00 to the Journalism major at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi). I really love Literature, History, Geography and have also invested in studying seriously. However, when I learned that the school had removed combination C00, I was really confused, not knowing which direction to continue.”

On June 6, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Official Dispatch No. 2864/BGDĐT-GDĐH on reviewing and announcing enrollment information for university and college levels in Preschool Education.

According to Nguyen Tien Thao, Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), in recent days, some universities have announced incomplete enrollment information, some information has changed, causing anxiety and passivity for candidates. To ensure the rights of learners and provide complete and accurate enrollment information for 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training requires training institutions to properly implement enrollment regulations and instructions; review admission methods and combinations in accordance with the programs, majors, and groups of training majors for each method, ensuring fairness and not affecting the rights of candidates, especially at the present time when candidates have completed registration for the 2025 high school graduation exam.

The Ministry of Education and Training also emphasized that training institutions must be accountable when making changes related to admission methods and combinations.
