Drilling through 3 layers of rock, Finland discovers shocking "treasure"

(Dan Tri) - A series of deep drills in Ukkolanvaara, Finland has just shocked the mineral investment world when it discovered a huge gold mineralization area.

According to the New York Post, a series of deep underground drills in Ukkolanvaara, Finland have just discovered a huge gold mineralization area, causing global mineral investors to boil over with the possibility of a new gold rush.

According to mining and exploration company Endomines, this important discovery came from bedrock samples taken in February in the Ukkolanvaara area, along the Karelian Gold Line – an area considered rich in mineral potential.

The first borehole, named UKKO-001, penetrated ancient rock layers and discovered three thick, rich gold zones at the same time. This is a rare occurrence in gold exploration around the world .

Three gold zones in one drill: Unprecedented

“We found not one, but three rich gold mineralization zones in the same drill hole UKKO-001. This result far exceeded all expectations and demonstrates the huge gold potential of Ukko,” said Kari Vyhtinen, CEO of Endomines.

Notably, the analysis of samples showed that some sections of rock yielded nearly 10 grams of gold per ton, a level of richness that experts say could change the entire prospect of gold mining in the Karelian Gold Line area, which has long been considered a “potential gold belt” in Northern Europe.

After the initial results were announced, Endomines drilled a total of 17 holes with a total length of more than 4,600m, receiving analysis results for 9 holes.

In particular, many drills after UKKO-001 continued to give excellent results, proving that the gold mineralization zone extends horizontally for at least 400m and is at least 150m deep.

“Gold was clearly visible in the cores of eight out of 17 drill holes, suggesting that Ukko could be a large-scale mineral system, closely linked to the existing iron ore deposits in the Ukkolanvaara area,” Vyhtinen stressed.

Extend the exploration campaign indefinitely

Endomines initially planned to survey Ukko for only a few weeks. But the unexpected results from the drills prompted the company to change its strategy: expanding the drilling campaign, sediment sampling, geophysical surveys, and geological mapping across the entire Karelian Gold Line in 2025.

“We believe Ukko will be a key highlight in Endomines’ long-term plans and has the potential to become a major, globally significant gold discovery,” said Mr. Vyhtinen.

Geologists say the gold is found concentrated in the Banded Iron Formation (BIF), where magnetite is replaced by pyrrhotite – a geological structure typical of the world's giant gold mines.

The alteration zone around the gold contains chlorite, carbonate, blue mica and iron sulfide minerals, creating a favorable environment for the formation of large ore bodies.

Endomines said all drilling, sampling, preparation and analysis were conducted in strict compliance with QA/QC procedures, meeting international JORC standards. Gold samples above 10 g/t were also re-analyzed to ensure accuracy.

Mr. Jani Rautio, the geologist who reviewed the entire drilling program, confirmed that the results were of high professional quality and reliable enough to be used for future mineral resource calculations.
