Unbelievable, Vietnamese female fencer dislocated knee still won SEA Games gold medal

On the afternoon of May 14, the Vietnamese sports delegation won another gold medal in fencing, the women's sabre team event.

Four female fencers Phung Thi Khanh Linh, Pham Thi Thu Hoai, Bui Thi Thu Ha, and Le Minh Hang defeated the Philippine fencing team, successfully defending the gold medal won at the 31st SEA Games.

Notably, in the competition of fencer Pham Thi Thu Hoai, she dislocated her knee during an attacking move.

After this situation, the Vietnamese female fencer was in great pain. However, Thu Hoai did not give up and was determined to continue competing.

If Thu Hoai gives up, the whole team will be disqualified by the referee and lose the gold medal.

The female fencer endured the pain to finish the match and her efforts were rewarded with a gold medal.

Talking about her injury, Thu Hoai shared: “In a situation when trying to regain a point, I accidentally stepped on my Filipino opponent's foot and dislocated my knee.

When I got injured, I was in so much pain that I fell to the floor. But at the moment when I was only 1 point away from winning, I was determined to do my best for this decisive point.”

Women's team sabre is the strength of Vietnamese fencing at the SEA Games.

At the Southeast Asian Games in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2015, the Vietnamese team won gold medals.

At SEA Games 31, Vietnamese fencing athletes continued to win gold medals in this event.

At the 32nd SEA Games, the goal of the Vietnamese fencing team is to win 3 to 4 gold medals to create favorable momentum towards the 2023 Asian Games and win a ticket to the 2024 Olympics.
