Rise from a new position
At the ceremony, historic decisions were announced. From here, the new An Giang province was born with a large natural area of 9,888.91 km2, and a population of nearly 5 million people. With 102 commune-level administrative units, including 85 communes, 14 wards and 3 special zones, An Giang now has a large development space, enough to grow.
The special thing and also the key factor that creates the different potential, outstanding opportunities and outstanding competitive advantages for the new An Giang is the convergence of diverse geographical factors. From long coastlines embracing the vast ocean, hidden pearl islands in the middle of the sea, to majestic mountain ranges, vast rice fields stretching far and wide and rivers full of alluvium... All blend together to create a beautiful natural picture, along with invaluable resources. Along with that, the increasingly synchronous investment in infrastructure systems of transportation, irrigation, electricity and water, along with abundant local labor resources, has been and is creating solid premises for future development.
With its natural advantages, An Giang has the key to strongly develop key economic sectors. That is the marine economy with potential for exploitation, aquaculture, logistics and island tourism. That is eco-tourism with scenic mountains, rivers, cajuput forests and unique cultural features of the Southwest. That is high-tech agriculture with large-scale fields, applying modern science and technology to improve productivity and product quality. That is the processing industry - a key industry that helps increase the value of agricultural products, creating products with the An Giang brand reaching far and wide.
New impetus from restructuring
The arrangement, streamlining of the organizational apparatus, and merging of administrative units are not simply changes in administrative boundaries. More importantly, this is a major policy of the Party and the State, aiming to create new conditions, motivations, and mechanisms for the province to develop faster and more sustainably. Above all, the highest goal is to serve the people better.
Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung emphasized: “This is a historic moment, opening up a new development space for An Giang. The merger is not just about accumulation, but about joining forces, creating superior combined strength. We must turn potentials into resources, turn challenges into opportunities. In particular, we must put the interests of the people first in all decisions.”
This change is not only administrative, but also a change in thinking and working methods. Party committees and local authorities are actively implementing specific plans to quickly stabilize the apparatus, promote the spirit of solidarity and creativity of cadres, party members and people. "We believe that with the close direction of the Central Government, the drastic participation of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, An Giang will soon reap brilliant achievements" - Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Long Xuyen Ward Party Committee Vo Thi Xuan Kieu affirmed.
Aspirations from the people's hearts
The joy and expectation of a bright future are not only in the leaders, but also spread deeply in the hearts of every An Giang resident. Ms. Nguyen Thi Be Ba (71 years old, residing in My Thoi ward) emotionally shared: “From now on, my homeland will be larger and more beautiful. I believe that the new An Giang will develop even more strongly, my children and grandchildren will have more opportunities to study, work and build a better life”. Mr. Tran Van Nam (tour guide) expressed: “The merger opens up great opportunities for the tourism industry. We can now connect destinations from sea and islands to mountains, rivers, creating more diverse and attractive tours, attracting domestic and foreign tourists”. “I hope that the new An Giang province will maximize its resources, effectively exploit its potential and strengths, and rise to become an important growth pole in the Mekong Delta and the whole country” - Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh (residing in Binh Duc ward) wished.
With abundant potential, new motivations from restructuring and above all the consensus and determination of the entire Party, government and people, we fully believe that the new An Giang will realize its development aspirations, become a bright spot on the country's socio-economic map, and bring a better life to every citizen.
