In Vietnam's group, coach Kim Sang Sik's team beat the Philippines 3-2 while Indonesia lost to Iraq 0-2. This result gives Vietnam a chance to overcome Indonesia to advance.
In Group C, Thailand held China to a 1-1 draw despite playing away from home. This result brought a slim hope to the defending ASEAN Cup champions in the race with China to advance to the next round. A similar situation also occurred in Group D when Malaysia held Kyrgyzstan to a 1-1 draw away from home to maintain a slim chance of advancing to the third qualifying round.

After the 5th round of matches, the Organizing Committee has determined that 3 more teams have qualified for the third qualifying round: Jordan, South Korea, Oman and Palestine. These teams also have tickets to the 2027 Asian Cup. Up to now, 12 teams have qualified for the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.
