iPhone 17 Air is the future
When Apple introduced its first “Air” product, the MacBook Air, it came with a number of trade-offs.
To achieve the ultra-thin design, Apple had to remove ports, sacrifice performance, and remove the optical drive, which was still standard on laptops at the time.

It’s not for everyone, but for those who want a taste of the future of laptop design, the MacBook Air is a compelling proposition.
The iPhone 17 Air seems to be heading in a similar direction.
No new model represents the future of iPhone design more clearly than the upcoming iPhone 17 Air.
Jony Ive has long envisioned the ultimate iPhone design as a single piece of glass, which explains why he's been obsessed with making the iPhone thinner and lighter over time.
Even though Ive is no longer at Apple, the company appears to continue to execute on that vision.
Just like the iPhone X did in 2017, the iPhone 17 Air — based on leaks — could make other iPhone models look instantly outdated, including the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
And while it will lack some of the premium features found on the pricier Pro models, the trade-offs don't seem as severe as the original MacBook Air had to endure.
The price of the iPhone 17 Air's thin and light design
Compared to the iPhone 17 Pro, the iPhone 17 Air will only have: A19 chip less powerful than the A19 Pro; only one rear camera, no ultra-wide or telephoto camera; lower battery life.
The specific details of these restrictions have not yet been released, so it is not yet possible to say how much impact they will have.
For example, if the 17 Air’s battery was really bad, that would be a huge minus from the start. But if it’s just “okay,” and you’re just choosing between the “good battery” of the iPhone 17 Air and the “very good battery” of the Pro, then the trade-off probably isn’t that big.
In terms of performance, most users will not feel the difference between the A19 and A19 Pro chips. As for the rear camera having only 1 lens, it depends on each person's usage and preferences.
There will be people who decide to sacrifice a few features, which may not be so important to them, in order to change for a new perspective.
They may also be fed up with the iPhone Pro models that have been too similar and boring over the past few generations. And the iPhone 17 Air is considered a breath of fresh air. They will feel more excited about the iPhone 17 Air while they don't have that feeling with the iPhone 17 Pro.
For those who love the ultra-thin design that brings a futuristic feel to the device, the price to trade for the iPhone 17 Air will be completely worth it.
If you want the most powerful iPhone possible, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are still the best options in terms of specs. But if you want to feel like you’re using a phone from the future, the iPhone 17 Air is a worthy choice.
Apple seems to be preparing a complete "makeover" in iPhone design in the next three years. The iPhone 17 Air will be the start. This not only marks a step forward in hardware technology but also shows Apple's ambition to lead the trend of future smartphone design.
The iPhone 17 series will be launched by Apple next September. The 2025 iPhone models are expected to include: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Air. As usual, special upgrades will be reserved for the "Pro" duo. But this year's iPhone 17 Air may be an exception.
