Hyundai introduces car temperature control technology

Three car temperature control technologies including nano heat insulation film, radiant heating system, and metal-coated heated glass, were introduced by Hyundai Motor Group at an event held in Seoul (Korea).

Among them, nano heat-insulating film is an advanced material that can reduce the temperature inside the car by up to 12°C. Unlike conventional heat-insulating film, this film not only blocks infrared radiation but also allows heat to escape from the car.

All three technologies will be applied on future Hyundai and Kia car models.

The film consists of three layers, two of which reflect solar energy and one that emits mid-infrared wavelengths. In rigorous testing, cars fitted with nano-window film recorded significant temperature reductions, showing its potential to keep car cabins cooler in hot weather.

The radiant heating system is designed to provide rapid warmth to passengers, especially in cold weather conditions. The system uses a heating element that radiates heat towards the lower body, providing warmth within three minutes.

When combined with a vehicle's standard heating system, radiant heating can save up to 17% more energy, while also helping to extend the electric vehicle's operating range in winter.

Metallized heated glass provides a quick and efficient windshield defrosting solution. The 48V electric system can clear frost and moisture from the windshield within 5 minutes, even in temperatures as low as -18°C.

Compared to conventional tungsten wire heating elements, this system is up to 4 times faster and consumes about 10% less energy.

On hot days, the metal coating can block at least 60% of solar energy, helping to reduce cabin temperature and improve energy efficiency.

Hyundai and Kia have filed patents for the technology and plan to integrate it into future models.
