Practical benefits
After a period of hesitation, Mr. Vu Quang Hai in Phu Trach village, Me So commune (Van Giang) invested over 100 million VND to install a rooftop solar power system. Mr. Hai shared: Since installing the rooftop solar power system with storage, the cost of electricity has decreased by 80% compared to before. In addition, on days when there is a power outage, the family still has a proactive power source to use necessary equipment.
The purpose of installing rooftop solar power of Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoang in Hoang Trach village, Me So commune (Van Giang) is not only to reduce monthly electricity costs but also to help cool the space and protect the structure of the house. Mr. Hoang said: After researching and experiencing it myself, I found that solar panels can shield and reduce the amount of heat absorbed into the house, making the space cooler, thereby reducing dependence on air conditioning and saving electricity. In particular, the solar power system is designed to be safe, minimizing the risk of fire and explosion compared to traditional power systems.
Since the Government issued Decree 135/2024/ND-CP dated October 22, 2024 stipulating mechanisms and policies to encourage the development of self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power. Recently, Decree 58/2025/ND-CP dated March 3, 2025 of the Government detailing a number of articles of the Electricity Law on the development of renewable energy and new energy with more open policies, many people have proactively installed rooftop solar panels. According to regulations, households that self-install and produce electricity for their own use with a capacity of less than 100 kWp do not have to register, in case of surplus, they can sell to the grid no more than 20% of the capacity.
Demand spikes
According to some rooftop solar power service providers, after a period of stagnation due to mechanism problems, in the past 2 months, the demand for rooftop solar power installation in the province has increased dramatically. Mr. Vu Quang Hai, Me So commune (Van Giang) shared: From the beginning of June until now, I have installed rooftop solar power for 21 customers, nearly 3 times higher than the whole year of 2024 combined. In particular, customers are mainly households with a common installed capacity of 10 - 15kWp.
Currently, the cost of installing solar power has decreased significantly, and installation materials and equipment are more popular. Mr. Nguyen Van Doanh in An Thi town (An Thi) said: 7 years ago, to install solar panels for a family with a capacity of 8-10 kWp, the cost was about 160-200 million VND, but now it has decreased by nearly half. In addition, new customers install batteries to store unused electricity for use at night or on cloudy days.
Currently, in the province, there are many enterprises that construct and provide technical advice on the installation of solar panels, so the inspection and maintenance of panels as well as equipment such as transformers and inverters are also more convenient. However, according to the recommendation of the Energy Management Department, Department of Industry and Trade, people should choose reputable enterprises for consultation and installation to ensure safety and price transparency; have a warranty and receive periodic instructions on cleaning equipment to effectively exploit the battery storage for panels...
Solar power is one of the energy sources that is widely selected, encouraged and prioritized for use. People using this source of power can save a lot of costs and protect the structure of the house. Large enterprises have more benefits and better conditions when installing solar power due to owning large roof areas, available transformer station infrastructure and power lines. Developing rooftop solar power installations not only helps customers save costs, but also reduces the burden on the electricity industry in investing in the load system.
