The Magic V5 is seen as a major challenge to Samsung's leadership in the foldable smartphone market, especially as the company prepares to introduce the Galaxy Z7 Series on July 9. Although the Magic V5 is currently only sold in China, Honor is likely to expand the product to the international market later this year.

According to Honor, the Magic V5 is 8.8 to 9 mm thick when folded, depending on the color. Compared to its predecessor, the Magic V3, which was 9.2 mm thick, the Magic V5 is lighter, weighing between 217 and 222 grams. In particular, the Chinese version of the Magic V5 will have an internal memory option of up to 1 TB and a battery of more than 6,000 mAh - one of the highest battery capacities in the foldable smartphone segment.
Although foldable smartphones will account for less than 2% of the global smartphone market by 2024, Samsung is still the leader with 34% market share, followed by Huawei with nearly 24% and Honor in fourth place with about 11%, according to data from IDC.
Honor's tireless efforts to beat Samsung
Honor is determined to beat Samsung, which is expected to launch its seventh-generation foldable smartphone next week, and the Magic V5 will put a lot of pressure on the Korean company. The thinness of foldable smartphones has become a fierce competition among manufacturers to attract users who want a large screen without sacrificing portability. Rumors suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold7, which will launch next week, will be thinner than its predecessor, but surpassing the 8.8mm thickness of the Magic V5 is unlikely.

Honor is still in the process of building its brand internationally, so the Chinese company is working to differentiate itself from Samsung products. As part of this effort, Honor is also investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI), with plans to spend $10 billion over the next five years to develop advanced personal assistants. For example, Honor's AI assistant Yoyo is capable of interacting with other AI models to help users perform tasks such as calling a taxi through apps in China.
