Khanh Hoa Province Department of Education and Training has just announced the admission scores for grade 10 of public high schools in the province.

structure, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted has a benchmark score ranging from 35.75 to 44 points, depending on the specialized subject.

Notably, the school with the lowest benchmark score is Nguyen Du High School with 5 points, meaningful candidates only need to score more than 1.6 points per subject to pass. Next are Ton Duc Thang High School and To Van On High School with 6.5 points each; Tran Quy Cap High School takes 6.75 points.

Another thing that surprised many students and parents in Khanh Hoa was that the benchmark scores for entering grade 10 at top high schools also dropped sharply.

According to Mr. Vo Hoan Hai, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Khanh Hoa province, the number of candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam in the province this year decreased by more than 3,500 students compared to the previous school year. Therefore, many schools did not meet their enrollment quota and were forced to lower their admission scores.

Explaining why the benchmark scores of some schools only fluctuate between 5 and 6.5 points, Mr. Hai said that these are mainly schools located in remote areas, where socio -economic conditions are still difficult and students have few opportunities to study.

"Students in these areas often have a fear of going to school and their academic performance is also limited. If theeducation sector only focuses on achievements and does not organize enrollment at local schools, students will have to go to school in the central commune, 20-30km from home, which is very inconvenient and difficult," Mr. Hai emphasized.

According to Mr. Two, in many disadvantaged areas there are no continuing education centers, so lowering the benchmark is a solution to encourage students to attend class and ensure their right to study. This is a humane approach. In fact, despite lowering the benchmark, many schools in disadvantaged areas still cannot recruit enough students.
