The top 10 best cities in the world are in the 30th World's Best Awards 2025 announced by the world-famous travel magazine Travel + Leisure on July 8. Topping the list this year is San Miguel de Allende, Mexico with 93.33 points. Chiang Mai, Thailand is in second place (91.94 points) and Tokyo, Japan is in third place (91.39 points).
Hoi An is the only representative of Vietnam on this list, ranked 6th with 91 points. Hoi An is highly appreciated for its canal system and unique ancient town architecture, recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage in 1999. Visitors to Hoi An often spend time walking, taking photos on the old streets, visiting cafes, shopping stores and enjoying the vibrant nightlife atmosphere.

The list of the world's best cities is based on a reader survey. Cities are voted on the criteria: impressive sights, quality hotels, vibrant cuisine , unique historical culture and a unique atmosphere that is hard to find elsewhere.
A livable city is not only about vibrant neighborhoods or unique cuisine, but also about convenient transportation, lots of green space and an open environment. The "value for money" criterion is also emphasized, as many cities offer experiences worth the money spent by tourists.
This year’s survey saw Asia dominate with seven entries in the top 10. Latin America also made its mark, with the top city and five other entries. Many readers said these destinations “checked it all” and were worth multiple visits.
Travel + Leisure is a prestigious American travel magazine, first published in 1937. The magazine specializes in reviews, rankings of destinations, hotels, resorts and travel trends, and also has annual awards such as the "World's Best Awards".
