What does Hoang Dung have at the age of 30?

Entering his 30s with 10 years of professional artistic activities, Hoang Dung still has positive changes so that his music does not become boring.

Hoang Dung is not a market leader, breaking the charts, but his songs have a long-lasting vitality in the market. The hit "Nang Tho" did not receive much attention when it was released, but then gradually penetrated every corner through cover versions and performances on student stages. The song " Nhat Thau Nam" in the album "25 " was not too prominent at first, but was "revived" later thanks to a cover version by Tran Thu Ha in "The Masked Singer".

Originally a singer - songwriter whose abilities are recognized in both fields (runner-up of The Voice and finalist of Sing My Song ) , Hoang Dung has many ways to approach the audience. In the latest album Xoay Tron , Hoang Dung continues to affirm his increasingly perfect skills, and expands on other profound elements as he enters his 30s.

What is the difference between 30 and 25?

In his debut album marking his 25th birthday, Hoang Dung composed many songs about love, especially the feelings after a breakup. Although the ideas were not too special, Hoang Dung's way of developing the songs was quite new in the market at that time when exploiting more unfamiliar perspectives: Having to build new habits, dusting off old memories, the silence when a love affair gradually comes to an end,... The arrangement was also made quite minimalist, mainly focusing on beautiful ballad melodies and Dung's masculine voice.

Coming to Xoay Tron , Hoang Dung has had a different approach. Right from the opening single La Ban , Hoang Dung has exploited up tempo sounds that he has never done before. The composition part does not have many differences, still a new perspective on familiar topics, but brings many challenges for Hoang Dung in presenting a fast-paced song, and also challenges his loyal audience who are familiar with easy-to-listen, gentle sounds. Collaborating for the first time with producer Pixel Neko, who is strong in fast-tempo pop songs and somewhat hip-hop, Hoang Dung shows his determination to change his image.

Hoang Dung has made significant changes in both music and content in his second album.

This change is not too surprising or sudden. Hoang Dung is actually a singer who leans more towards R&B than ballad, as proven through his performances in The Voice . Later, when working in the market, with the tastes of the majority of the public, Hoang Dung gradually changed his direction towards slow-tempo songs. What he exploited in the album Xoay Tron can be said to be Dung returning to his true self.

No longer just songs about love, Hoang Dung in Xoay Tron exploits many themes with more layers of meaning. Sao Gio Em Moi Den can be simply understood as two lovers waiting for each other, but it can also be understood that Hoang Dung is waiting for musical inspiration to come to him. Em Dung Cay can be understood as a girl sowing small happiness in the boy's heart, but it can also be understood that "em" here is the art that has brought the boy new life. It doesn't matter, it is aimed at letting go of all pressure, to live comfortably, not constrained by the things others impose on you.

The appearance of Pixel Neko and Lelarec - the two main producers of the album - makes the messages that Hoang Dung wants to convey more weight. No longer focusing too much on melody and vocals as the backbone of the song, the songs in Xoay Tron are dressed in many new layers.

Like in Khong Quan Quan , the romantic bossa nova melody creates a gentle and peaceful feeling, just like the contemplations in the song, but Pixel Neko speeds it up in some parts to make the song less predictable. Or when it comes to Dancing in the Night, it could have been a simple romantic song, but a dense electronic outro is added to make the images in the song more surreal and vague. Sam Panh and Tach with the participation of Lelarec (the common stage name of Le Nguyen Khoi and Cuong Nhoc) bring Hoang Dung pop rock sounds that are rarely seen in his music.

There are still things that are typical of Hoang Dung.

In this album, Hoang Dung still maintains a composition style that is not too flashy or requires a lot of hooks in the song to catch the ear at first listen, nor does he aim to create a trend on short video platforms. His songs all aim for beautiful melodies and lyrics with a lot of investment, forcing listeners to listen over and over again to extract all the content.

Hoang Dung's lyrics also bring very special images that only he has: " If you forget all the reasons when you started/ Before you go/ Remind me to always bring a compass " (La Ban), " The transitional music goes back and forth, keep forgetting the words, just remember to cherish the memories without leaving " (Champagne), " We don't need a professor to teach us to spend all the money we have now/ It's not that important, please don't think too much " (Not important).

Hoang Dung is still the project owner and maintains his own musical color.

Hoang Dung also did not completely abandon the slow-tempo, somewhat simple songs to retain his previous loyal audience. The painting and the bird, Keep me for yesterday or Don't keep the place are such safe songs, and are considered to be the tracks that will bring Dung more hits.

And what always makes Hoang Dung clearly different from other artists with the same style on the market - his voice - is still very good and is becoming more and more perfect. For singers who do not have good technique, when singing upbeat songs, the lyrics, especially difficult words containing heavy question marks, are often sung without a clear tone or broken into different tones, making it difficult for the audience to hear clearly.

However, this does not happen to Dung. Even in songs with a much faster tempo like La Ban, Sao Gio Em Moi Den , Dung still sings each word clearly, unintentionally creating a very unique style in Vpop. Songs with a "love" part like Khieu Vu Trong Dem or Em Dung Cay are Dung's forte thanks to his solidity, masculinity, rarely singing beyond his vocal range but focusing on handling things well within his safe zone.

At the age of 30, when it is no longer important to find a place in the market and prove his ability, Hoang Dung is more relaxed in exploring other aspects of his music. He also has more contemplation, adding a few more profound parts to enrich his compositions which are already of high quality in the Vietnamese music field. Xoay Tron may not be too flashy or achieve high rankings on the charts, but it will certainly have a lasting vitality like Dung's previous products.
