At a recent press conference in Singapore, coach Mikel Arteta shared about Arsenal's transfer strategy after the team completed the deal to recruit Noni Madueke from Chelsea, the 6th player to join the Gunners from The Blues under his tenure.
When asked why Arsenal have been constantly recruiting players from Chelsea in recent years, Arteta said: "Maybe because they have great players. We focus on the right talents, regardless of where they come from. It may be a coincidence, but their quality is what matters."
He also congratulated Chelsea after winning the 25th FIFA Club World Cup: "I congratulate Chelsea on that incredible achievement. But now, I'm just focused on what Madueke and the new players will bring to Arsenal."
Madueke, a £52m signing, is the fourth player to join Arsenal this summer, following goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and two other new signings. The Gunners have already signed Jorginho, Kai Havertz, Willian and loaned Raheem Sterling from Chelsea.
Arteta did not hide his excitement: "I am very excited about Noni Madueke. His teammates also welcomed him warmly. Madueke needs time to recover, but will soon prove his worth."
However, Arteta confirmed that the club are still looking for quality additions to increase squad depth: "There is still time in the transfer window, and we are still actively looking. In terms of numbers, our squad lacks depth and needs to improve quality. We are working hard to bring in the right players."
Finally, the Spaniard stressed that Arsenal's aim is to take the team to the next level: Arteta also stressed the importance of refreshing the squad: "The signing of new faces brings excitement and new energy. We have signed very important players, and I think everyone feels that Arsenal needs to raise the bar to achieve bigger goals. That is what we are aiming for."
With positive moves in the transfer market, Arsenal under the leadership of Arteta is showing great ambition in competing in both the Premier League and the European Cup 1.
