Accompanying wounded and sick soldiers
Arriving at Thuan Thanh War Invalids Nursing Center, Ninh Xa Ward, when the shower had just stopped. Visiting the first room on the left right at the entrance to the nursing area, we immediately saw the image of war invalid Nguyen Van Can (born in 1958), from Mao Dien Ward, lying on the bed, watching information about the early days of operating a two-level local government on the television of Bac Ninh Newspaper and Radio and Television. According to Mr. Can, when he turned 18, he volunteered to join the army, was assigned to the 3rd Army Corps to participate in protecting the southwestern border. In 1978, he was injured in a battle in Tay Ninh Province and was treated in many places, then brought to Thuan Thanh War Invalids Nursing Center. With a disability rate of 95%, every day, the Center's doctors come to his bed to examine, check his health and prescribe medicine.

Not far from Mr. Can's room, Dr. Ngo Huy Pho, Head of the Medical Department (Thuan Thanh Nursing Center for War Invalids) is examining war invalid Nguyen Van Xoa (born in 1958), residing in Tan An ward. According to Dr. Pho, due to the change in weather, the old wound has relapsed, causing Mr. Xoa to have a headache and feel uncomfortable all over. While giving Mr. Xoa medicine, Dr. Pho also kindly encouraged him. "Currently, the Center is caring for and nursing 84 seriously wounded soldiers from 13 provinces and cities, of which 27 are from Bac Ninh. Because more than 90% of the wounded soldiers have spinal injuries, on windy and rainy days, the old wounds relapse, causing pain to the wounded and sick soldiers. At times like these, in addition to doing our job well, we also have to be very psychological, encouraging, and sharing with the doctors," said Dr. Ngo Huy Pho.
Along with lifelong care for 13 seriously wounded soldiers from localities in the province and Hanoi city, the Provincial Nursing Center for Meritorious Soldiers provides centralized care and nursing for meritorious soldiers in the area. Since the beginning of the year, the Center has organized centralized nursing at the unit and in other provinces for more than 2,200 meritorious soldiers. Here, wounded and sick soldiers are monitored for their health, examined, treated and given thoughtful mental care. For seriously wounded soldiers who are cared for throughout their lives, the Center assigns a medical team to be on duty, ready to examine and treat them 24/7.
To provide comprehensive care for meritorious people
As of July 2025, the province has more than 284,000 meritorious people, of which more than 40,000 are receiving monthly allowances. In order for meritorious people to receive comprehensive health care, in recent years, agencies, units and localities have carried out many activities. In the first 6 months of this year alone, the province's specialized agencies have reviewed and provided money to buy orthopedic devices for 1,196 meritorious people who have reached the age limit for orthopedic devices; coordinated with the Social Insurance of Region XI to issue health insurance cards to nearly 135,400 meritorious people...
As of July 2025, the province has about 284,000 meritorious people, of whom more than 40,000 are receiving monthly allowances. According to the plan, this year the province will provide nursing care for more than 27,000 meritorious people, of which 8,500 will be provided with centralized nursing care, and the rest will be provided at home. |
Although positive results have been achieved, through assessment, because the beneficiaries, especially war invalids and seriously ill soldiers, are all old, have poor health, and many have chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney failure, hepatitis, urinary tract infections, etc., care and nursing work is difficult.
According to the plan, this year, the whole province will organize nursing for more than 27,000 meritorious people, of which more than 8,500 subjects will be centralized nursing, the rest will be home-based nursing. To ensure the best conditions, the Provincial Nursing Center for Meritorious People will develop a detailed plan, coordinate with locations outside the province to organize centralized nursing sessions; at the same time, recruit 1 more doctor, ready to examine and treat wounded and sick soldiers. Similarly, Thuan Thanh Nursing Center for Wounded Soldiers will maintain a team of 3 people (doctor, nurse and nurse), ensuring 24/7 duty at the wounded soldiers' accommodation. With their responsibilities, medical facilities will arrange a reception area, prioritize examination for meritorious people; and provide free medicine. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Head of the Department of Meritorious People (Department of Home Affairs) said: “Currently, the Department of Home Affairs is reviewing to advise the Provincial People's Committee to develop regulations to support the nursing and health recovery regime; support nursing services, and reception of meritorious people and their relatives in the province to submit to the Provincial People's Council in the coming time. In the immediate future, we advise the Provincial People's Committee to organize delegations to visit and present gifts to 7 centers and units for concentrated care and treatment of meritorious people and 36 outstanding meritorious people in the province on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, July 27 (1947 - 2025)”.
