Overcome difficulties, study well

Dinh Duy Bay’s house is located in a small alley in Dac Thang village, Ninh Chau commune. Born into a farming family, Dinh Duy Bay’s parents worked hard all year round to raise the four of them. Since childhood, Bay and his older siblings helped their parents with farm work, to make ends meet, and to pay for their education. There were times when Bay’s parents had to run around and borrow money everywhere, just hoping that their children would not have to drop out of school.

“Bay’s family is poor, he doesn’t have the conditions to take extra classes like his peers, but he studies very well and is awarded by the school every year. Because we love our children, no matter how difficult it is, my wife and I always tell ourselves to try our best to ensure that our children can study properly,” said Dinh Duy Kien, Bay’s father.

Understanding the sweat, tears and sleepless nights of his parents, Bay turned that hardship into a strong motivation to rise up. Since childhood, Dinh Duy Bay has been aware that only education can help his family escape poverty. Therefore, he always told himself to try twice or three times harder than his friends to not let his parents down.

With his excellent academic achievements, Bay had many options to join the excellent student teams of Gia Ninh Secondary School. In grade 7, he participated in training excellent students in Math and Physics. And in grade 8, Bay began to nurture his love for Chemistry because to him, this subject brought many interesting and special things.

With constant efforts in studying and guidance from teachers, in just the first year of switching to Chemistry, Bay won second prize in the district-level excellent student selection exam. In grade 9, he continued to win the encouragement prize in Chemistry in the provincial-level excellent student selection exam.

In the first years of high school, Bay soon built a clear study plan for himself, with specific goals for each school year, along with perseverance and determination to achieve them. Talking about learning methods, Bay said that self-awareness and initiative are prerequisites to achieving good results.

In addition to focusing on listening to teachers and doing homework in class, I also spend a lot of time studying on my own, taking review classes, and solving problems on the internet to improve my knowledge. During my three years of high school, I continuously achieved many excellent results. In grade 11 and grade 12, Bay won third and second prizes at the provincial Chemistry competition for excellent students.

Teacher Nguyen Thi Mai, homeroom teacher of class 12A2, Ninh Chau High School, shared: Dinh Duy Bay is a diligent, progressive student and especially has a high spirit of self-study. Today's achievement is a worthy recognition for his persistent efforts over many years. Not only did Bay have the highest high school graduation exam score in the province, he also excelled in the top 171/200 candidates with the highest scores nationwide, an admirable and proud achievement.

In the small house, Dinh Duy Bay's parents could not hide their joy and happiness when they heard the news that Bay had excelled and become the candidate with the highest total score in the four subjects in the province with 37.5 points. Of which, Math was 9.5 points, Literature was 8.5 points, Physics was 9.5 points and Chemistry was 10 points.

“After finishing the exam, I knew I would get a good score, but when I received the results that I had the highest score in the whole province, I couldn’t believe it because it was so surprising. I was really happy and excited because after all my efforts and hard work, I achieved the results I expected. To get this result, I also received a lot of support from the school, teachers, family and friends,” Bay shared.

Dinh Duy Bay's maturity is the result of his spirit of overcoming difficulties, his gratitude to his parents, the dedication of his teachers and a dynamic educational environment where students can develop their own abilities. His achievement as valedictorian of the high school entrance exam is the pride of his family and school and inspires many other students on their journey to conquer knowledge, to rise up with perseverance and willpower.

Talking about the secret to getting a 10 in Chemistry, Bay said: “In addition to focusing on reviewing the knowledge learned in class, I also researched and self-studied through review lectures on the internet. And the most important thing to do well on the test is to have a solid grasp of the basic knowledge so that I can apply it creatively during the test.”

With a clear direction for the future, Dinh Duy Bay has registered his first choice in the Automation major at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. This is a potential choice, in line with the strong development trend of science and technology in the context of deep international integration. The Automation major promises to open up many opportunities for Bay to maximize his capacity and passion.

Looking to the future, Bay expressed his desire to continue his studies, constantly improving his knowledge and skills. In particular, he cherishes the ambition of dedicating his youth and intelligence to contribute to the prosperous development of his homeland and country. With a solid foundation of knowledge, a spirit of continuous learning and a steadfast will, we believe that Dinh Duy Bay will continue to shine on the upcoming journey.
