Happiness is sharing and companionship

In today's modern life, many traditional values of Vietnamese families have somewhat faded. However, there are still warm homes that are shining examples, where love, respect and sharing are preserved and nurtured over the years. So that there is always laughter and warmth. The family of Associate Professor, Dr. - Meritorious Artist Tran Thi Viet Trung (former Director, Editor-in-Chief of Thai Nguyen University Publishing House) and Meritorious Artist - Meritorious Artist Ngo Dinh Thanh (former Principal of Viet Bac College of Culture and Arts, former Director of Viet Bac Folk Music and Dance Theater) is one of such typical examples.

PV: Madam, what is the key factor that helps the family maintain harmony and happiness over the years?

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Viet Trung: For me, no matter how busy or successful a woman is in society, when she returns home she still has to fulfill her duties as a wife and mother. Family is a place of love, a place where everyone returns after all the hustle and bustle. In married life, the most important thing is respect, tolerance, love and helping each other progress.

We have two children and now four grandchildren. Although the children live separately, every weekend the whole family reunites at our parents' house, cooking, cleaning, sharing joys and sorrows. Those are simple but precious moments. It is the family meals, the children's laughter, and everyday stories that have bonded us over the years.

PV: In the journey of building a home, surely there are times when the family cannot avoid difficulties and conflicts?

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Viet Trung: Every family has conflicts, and so do we. Although we have the same thoughts, we cannot avoid disagreements. There are times when we argue from night to morning just because of a viewpoint on work or how to raise children. But my husband is always the one who lets me win to keep the peace (laughs - PV).

We always keep in mind: “One patience is worth nine blessings”. Anything can be solved if both sides know how to listen, control their ego, think about their partner and always accept the loss. Through times like that, we understand each other more, bond more and know how to appreciate what we have.

PV: In the digital age, raising children has many challenges. How has the family oriented itself to preserve order and tradition, madam?

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Viet Trung: We always maintain the principle: love but not indulgence, teach by reason and example. Children and grandchildren are all treated fairly, without discrimination. We create conditions for children and grandchildren to study and develop themselves, while always reminding them to maintain family traditions and ethics. In the family, members can freely express their opinions, but must not insult each other.

Whenever there is a problem, adults must be an example of civilized behavior. When children achieve achievements, no matter how small, we always encourage them promptly with meaningful gifts such as books or a suitable course. The most important thing is to create a warm family environment so that children and grandchildren always feel the love and responsibility for the family.

PV: How do families usually maintain connections between generations through specific activities?

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Viet Trung: We always value reunions. On holidays, Tet, and birthdays, even though he is over 70 years old, my husband still does not forget to give me a bouquet of flowers, and I prepare his favorite dishes. These are small gestures but they are the bonds of love.

We also maintain the habit of inviting siblings and close friends to our house for gatherings and conversations. These meetings are not only a joy for adults but also an opportunity for children to understand and appreciate the value of family and affection.

PV: On Vietnamese Family Day, what message do you want to send to young families?

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Viet Trung: Modern life with so much pressure can easily make people impatient and conflicted. A strong marriage needs tolerance, knowing how to give in and put the word "we" above your ego. Don't let small things damage your feelings. Love and respect each other from the smallest things because those simple things are the "cement" that binds the home through many storms.

PV: Thank you!
