During the National Day holiday on September 2, tens of thousands of tourists from all over the country flocked to Tuyen Quang city (Tuyen Quang province) to participate in the giant lantern procession to welcome the Mid-Autumn Festival early.

For decades, giant Mid-Autumn lantern models have become a “specialty” of Tuyen Quang people. During the National Day holiday on September 2 this year, tens of thousands of tourists from all over the world flocked to Tuyen Quang city to participate in the giant lantern procession and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival early.
According to Dan Viet reporters' records on the evening of September 1, dozens of giant lantern models with various shapes were carried by people to the intersection of Binh Thuan Street.
This year is the 20th year that Tuyen Quang people have maintained and developed the "Thanh Tuyen Festival" - a unique, special and magnificent Mid-Autumn Festival. The program has the participation of many children along with beloved artists and singers, especially the parade of over 60 giant, sparkling and colorful Mid-Autumn lantern models, selected from competitions in Tuyen Quang City and districts in the province.
Giant lantern models in the shape of dragons, phoenixes, tigers, carps... with various colors and sizes attract locals and tourists to admire. It is known that the cost of making each large mid-autumn lantern is about 80-150 million VND, contributed by residents of residential groups on a voluntary basis. The lantern models are quite large with a height of more than 3m, a length of more than 12m, and an elaborate lighting system that ensures a sparkling and brilliant night.
Locals and tourists turn the streets into vibrant music and light parties. Mr. Nguyen Bao Long (a tourist from Hanoi) said that due to the high cost of airfare, during the National Day holiday on September 2 this year, our family decided to stop in Tuyen Quang to participate in the giant Mid-Autumn lantern procession. "I find this a very vibrant and attractive cultural activity. Tuyen Quang people are very skillful and hospitable. Although it is the festival time, they are not overcharged like many other places," Mr. Long shared.
The children were excited on the model cars made by their relatives.
Shops on central streets such as Binh Thuan, Quang Trung, and August 17 are always crowded with tourists.
In 2024, Tuyen Quang province will organize the Thanh Tuyen Festival with many unique and attractive cultural, sports and tourism activities, which have been carefully and meticulously prepared, such as: The Festival to display the representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity and the Thanh Tuyen Festival 2024, with the theme "The quintessence converges and shines", will take place from 20:00 on September 13, 2025, at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square, Tuyen Quang city on an international scale; This year's Thanh Tuyen Festival Night Program with the theme "Sparkling colors of Thanh Tuyen Festival Night" will be held at 20:10 on September 14 (Saturday, August 12 of the lunar calendar), at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square; with the participation of many children in the country and famous artists and singers of Vietnam, and especially the parade of over 100 giant mid-autumn lantern models.
