Goods are gathered at Nanning Guangxi International Railway Port before being transferred to Vietnam via Vietnam-China transit train.

In the first half of 2025, China-Vietnam intermodal trains departing from Guangxi transported a total of 18,870 TEUs of export goods, up 283% year-on-year, said Nanning Bureau Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Group.

The continuous boom in cross-border rail freight transport between China and Vietnam has given new impetus to promoting trade between the two countries.

According to the Nanning Railway Logistics Center under the Nanning Bureau, in the first half of this year, the number of containers of auto parts and MDF exported from Guangxi reached 2,528 TEUs and 4,580 TEUs, up 100% and 398% year-on-year, respectively, which is a significant growth.

Auto and motorbike components from provinces such as Jiangsu, Guangdong... are transported by rail to Nanning International Railway Port, then transferred to Vietnam via Vietnam-China transit trains, becoming a new growth point in transportation.

A Guangxi enterprise operating in the field of domestic and international freight forwarding has since the beginning of the year implemented LCL business activities, gathering LCL sources from all over the country in Nanning, then exporting them to Vietnam via the Vietnam-China railway.

In the first half of this year, the company shipped 3,366 TEUs of export cargo to Vietnam, up 128% year-on-year. Rail transport accounts for more than 90% of the company's total cross-border freight volume.

Mr. Duong Ba, Logistics Director of Guangxi International Transport Co., Ltd. said: “This year, the export demand to Vietnam is relatively strong, and the products are also diverse, including generator components, auto parts, plastic beads, steel, etc. With the speed of railway procedures and customs clearance efficiency being fast, safe and stable, meeting customers' transportation expectations, our company's cross-border shipping volume has also increased. It is expected that by the end of July 2025, this year's shipping volume will exceed last year's total volume.”

In order to meet the increasing transportation demand, the Nanning Bureau of China Railway Corporation has coordinated with the Vietnam Railway Industry to adjust the capacity of inbound and outbound freight trains. Accordingly, since this year, the tonnage of each train has increased from 1,000 tons to 1,300 tons, an increase of 30%.

At the same time, the frequency of fixed-route trains between Vietnam and China has also been increased from 5 trips/week to 14 trips/week, an increase of nearly 3 times. The route from Nanning (China) to Yen Vien station (Vietnam) now takes a maximum of 14 hours.

In addition, the Nanning Bureau of China National Railway Group continues to optimize transportation services, implementing a one-stop "planning - weighing - ticketing" model, shortening the processing time of international intermodal transport orders to less than 5 minutes.

At Nanning International Railway Port, a cargo consolidation and transshipment center has also been established, providing one-stop services such as short-distance transportation, warehousing, and cargo assembly.

The punctual, convenient and fast transportation service of the Vietnam-China railway ensures stable transportation for domestic enterprises exploiting the international market and attracts many customers to transport goods across borders by rail.

In the first half of this year, 16 large-scale enterprises used freight transport services via Vietnam-China intermodal trains, an increase of 2 enterprises compared to last year.

Up to now, export goods originating from Guangxi by Vietnam-China intermodal train include more than 380 types, with goods sources covering 25 provinces and cities in China, and cross-border transportation scope extending to Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and other ASEAN countries, contributing to the formation of a "highway" for trade cooperation between China and ASEAN countries./.
