Staff serve customers at a Haidilao hotpot restaurant in Beijing, China, on October 11, 2021.

Following the incident, the Shanghai Huangpu Public Security Bureau issued a statement on March 8 regarding the video. Police investigations revealed that on February 24, two 17-year-old boys, surnamed Tang and Wu, traveled from other provinces to Shanghai and dined in a private room at the Haidilao restaurant with other people. Both were drunk and urinated in the hot pot. Wu later posted a video of the act online.

Two individuals have been arrested for urinating in a hot pot at a popular Shanghai restaurant and posting the video online, according to a March 8 announcement from the Shanghai Public Security Bureau.

A few days later, Haidilao issued another announcement via social media Weibo regarding the incident and announced compensation for diners who had dined during the affected period, according to chinanews.com on March 12.

In the statement, Haidilao admitted that due to the lack of contingency plans and training for such incidents within the management, the restaurant's on-duty team failed to detect the actions of the two men in the private dining room during breakfast on February 24.

Haidilao has apologized to consumers and announced that all 4,109 restaurant orders related to the incident from 0:00 on February 24 to 0:00 on March 8 will be fully refunded, plus 10 times the order amount in cash compensation.

In addition, regarding the two people who peed in the hot pot, Haidilao filed a civil lawsuit with the Huangpu District Court in Shanghai on March 10, firmly demanding that they be held responsible according to the law, according to Haidilao's statement.

Haidilao has also replaced all hot pot cooking utensils and tableware, including chopsticks, and conducted thorough cleaning and disinfection procedures to maintain hygiene standards, the company said in a statement, according to the Global Times .
