The paintings displayed at the exhibition “Hang Trong Paintings” are ancient stories familiar in the cultural and spiritual life of the Vietnamese people. The highlight of the paintings in the collection is the aesthetic value, the sophistication of woodblock printing techniques, color mixing techniques, and especially the crystallization of humanistic values and unique cultural identity of the ancient Kinh people.
Artist Phan Ngoc Khue said: “It has probably been a long time since we have had the opportunity to come into contact with this type of painting. It has existed for hundreds of years, but in the conditions of our country having turmoil, the war in 1945 - 1954, we did not print these types of paintings, only small ones. For these types, the owners of the art shops had to buy wood to carve the paintings, each painting like this had to be made from at least 2-3 wood panels, had to be carpentered to make it even and beautiful, then painted.”
Each painting depicts important details in the fairy tale, from the colors to the brush strokes, vividly recreating the images of people and nature in the story, leaving many impressions on art lovers:
Ms. Chu Thi Thuy Van, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi shared: "The drawings have the true folk character of the ancient Hang Trong, that is, not colorful, not sharp, that is, there are modern features inserted but it is preserving the traditional features of the ancient Hang Trong, to be preserved for today".
In particular, within the framework of the event, there was also a ceremony to receive the set of paintings of Zhaojun paying tribute to the Ho from artist and researcher Phan Ngoc Khue to the Vietnam Women's Museum. The set of paintings of Zhaojun paying tribute to the Ho is part of the collection of paintings introduced in the exhibition "Hang Trong Comics". The exhibition is open to the public from now until March 31, 2024 at the Vietnam Women's Museum, 36 Ly Thuong Kiet, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi.
