World oil prices
Updated at 12:00 (Vietnam time), Brent oil price was at 76.59 USD/barrel, while WTI oil was trading around 73.31 USD/barrel.
Previously, both types of oil had a volatile session when they fell more than 2% at times, but at the end of the session on June 18, they recovered and increased slightly by about 0.4%.
US President Donald Trump's statement on June 18 that "America's patience is running out" and the possibility of deeper intervention in the Iran-Israel conflict have made the global oil market cautious.
Analysts say if the US directly participates, oil prices could rise by $5 per barrel due to concerns about the impact on energy infrastructure in the Middle East. Conversely, if the parties sit down at the negotiating table, oil prices could fall by the same amount.
Escalating tensions in the Middle East have also raised concerns about disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway that carries much of the world’s crude oil. A blockade of the area would have a major impact on energy trade flows.
Regarding monetary policy, the US Federal Reserve (Fed) decided to keep interest rates at 4.25% - 4.5% at its meeting on June 18. Although the Fed still forecasts a total cut of 0.5 percentage points in 2025, the agency also warned that the US economic growth rate will slow down, inflation this year is adjusted up to 3%, and the unemployment rate is expected to increase to 4.5%.
While the Fed did not directly address Middle East tensions, Chairman Jerome Powell said that energy price spikes due to conflicts are typically temporary and do not have a major impact on long-term inflation.
Domestic gasoline prices
According to the management cycle of the Ministry of Finance - Industry and Trade, domestic retail gasoline prices will be adjusted this afternoon (June 19).
With the world oil price trend showing signs of a slight increase in recent days, many forecasts suggest that domestic gasoline prices will continue to be adjusted upward during this period.
In the most recent adjustment period, the prices of petroleum products increased simultaneously. E5 RON 92 gasoline increased by 199 VND/liter, RON 95-III gasoline increased by 269 VND/liter. Oil prices also increased by 227 - 283 VND/liter/kg depending on the type.
In this adjustment, the joint ministries continue not to set aside and not spend the Petroleum Price Stabilization Fund for all products.
Since the beginning of 2025, the domestic petroleum market has undergone 24 adjustment sessions, with 10 increases, 9 decreases and 5 opposite adjustments. Price fluctuations clearly reflect the impact of the global energy market on domestic consumer prices.
Currently, the maximum retail prices of gasoline products are as follows: E5 RON 92 gasoline is at VND19,462/liter; RON 95-III gasoline is VND19,967/liter; diesel oil is VND17,700/liter; kerosene is VND17,511/liter; fuel oil is VND16,461/kg. These figures are expected to change after the adjustment period this afternoon.
