Gold price today July 12: Domestic price is more than 15 million VND more expensive than world price

Domestic gold price has skyrocketed to over 121 million VND and is now over 15 million VND more expensive than the world price.

On the morning of July 12, the world gold price increased by 5 USD compared to yesterday, to 3,354.88 USD/ounce. Converted according to Vietcombank exchange rate, the world gold price is equivalent to 106.3 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Meanwhile, the price of gold bars at Saigon Jewelry Company - SJC was bought at 119.5 million VND, sold at 121.5 million VND, an increase of 700,000 VND compared to yesterday morning. Currently, each tael of domestic gold bar is 15.2 million VND higher than the world price.

Gold prices rose to a one-week high as investors rushed to safe-haven assets after President Donald Trump widened the global trade war with new tariffs. The US president has announced a 35% tariff on imports from Canada next month and plans to impose a general tariff of 15% to 20% on most other trading partners. He has also announced a 50% tariff on copper imports and a similar tariff on goods from Brazil...

Speaking on CNBC, Mr. Aakash Doshi, Head of Global Gold Strategy at State Street Global Advisors, commented: "We are in an environment where uncertainty has returned and gold is being welcomed as a safe haven channel."

Escalating trade tensions have plunged the US stock market into the red. At the end of the trading session on July 11 (early morning of July 12, Vietnam time), the Dow Jones index fell 279.13 points, equivalent to 0.63% to 44,371.51 points; the S&P 500 index fell 0.33% to 6,259.75 points and the Nasdaq Composite index fell 0.22% to 20,585.53 points. The decline in points in this session brought the Dow Jones down 1% in the week, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite fell 0.3% and 0.1%, respectively.../.
