According to Thanh Nien Newspaper, since the beginning of July, pepper prices in Vietnam have begun to increase again due to scarce supply and are expected to continue to increase because the US applies higher reciprocal taxes to major pepper producing countries.
In many key pepper growing areas such as the Southeast and Central Highlands, pepper prices are currently fluctuating at 138,000 - 140,000 VND/kg, an increase of 7,000 to 11,000 VND/kg compared to the end of last month.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam, in the first half of 2025, pepper exports to many major markets increased sharply compared to the same period last year. Specifically, the US market - the most important market - increased by 35% and accounted for 27% of Vietnam's pepper export market share. Germany ranked second with a market share of over 9%, achieving a growth rate of 74%. India ranked third, accounting for 8% of the market share and growing by 87%. Notably, the UK, in the top 15 largest markets, increased pepper exports by 2.1 times.
In the first 6 months of this year, Vietnam's pepper exports reached 125,000 tons, down 12.4% in volume but worth 860 million USD, up 36% over the same period last year. The main reason was that the average export price of pepper reached 6,881 USD/ton, up 55% over the same period.

In the world market, pepper prices are expected to continue to fluctuate strongly when the US announced very high reciprocal tariffs on Brazil (50%) and Indonesia (32%). In 2024, Vietnam will still be the world's largest pepper exporter, followed by Brazil and Indonesia - major suppliers that are competing strongly. With this situation, Vietnamese pepper is expected to be more competitive in the international market.
In 2024, Vietnam's pepper exports reached 249,000 tons, worth 1.3 billion USD, down 6.2% in volume but up 44% in value compared to 2023. This is also the first time in many years that Vietnamese pepper has returned to the billion-dollar export "club".
