Export markets more competitive
Meanwhile, the durian export market continues to heat up with news that Cambodia is preparing to export its first shipment to China. In 2024, the country's durian output is expected to reach over 36,000 tons, but it is facing fierce competition from countries such as Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia.
The Chinese market – the largest destination for durian in the region – is currently showing signs of saturation, as the country has both increased investment in domestic growing areas and is receiving additional supplies from Indonesia and Laos. This will put considerable pressure on major exporters, especially Vietnam.
