DNVN - On October 15, 2024, the price of live pigs continued to decrease across the country, with the North recording a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg in many provinces.

Northern pig price

Pig price on October 13, 2024: The highest transaction price is 67,000 VND/kg

According to the latest survey, the price of live pigs in the North has decreased by another VND1,000/kg. In Tuyen Quang, Thai Binh and Hanoi provinces, the price of live pigs is currently at VND66,000/kg. In Thai Nguyen, Hai Duong, Hung Yen and Ha Nam , the price is slightly higher, reaching VND67,000/kg, the highest price in the North but still following the general downward trend.

Pig price in Central and Central Highlands

The Central and Central Highlands regions are also not immune to the downward trend. Quang Tri, Quang Nam and Khanh Hoa all decreased by VND1,000/kg, currently trading at VND64,000/kg. Localities such as Thua Thien Hue, Binh Dinh, Dak Lak and Ninh Thuan also have the same price. In general, the price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands ranges from VND64,000 to VND66,000/kg.

Southern pig price

Similar decreases were recorded in the South. An Giang and Vinh Long reduced prices by VND1,000/kg, bringing prices down to VND64,000/kg. Southern traders are purchasing live pigs for around VND63,000 - VND65,000/kg. Ben Tre and Bac Lieu currently have the lowest prices in the country, at only VND63,000/kg.

According to experts, the price of live pigs in the North may continue to decrease in the coming days, as the market is still declining rapidly. This puts pressure on the price of live pigs in all three regions. Currently, the price of live pigs nationwide fluctuates from 63,000 to 67,000 VND/kg, depending on the region. The reason is that the supply is large while the demand for consumption has not shown any signs of growth again.

Some experts say the domestic pig market is under pressure from herd rebuilding after storms and floods, as well as a shortage of piglets in key regions such as the North and Central regions. If demand does not recover in time, pig prices may continue to fall in the short term.

Although Vietnam's livestock industry has achieved many positive results, it still faces challenges from climate change and limited resources.

“Industrialization of the livestock industry towards organic and environmental protection will be an inevitable trend for sustainable agricultural development, meeting domestic and international needs,” Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien emphasized.

To realize the goal of sustainable development, in October 2020, the Prime Minister approved Decision 1520/QD-TTg on the Livestock Development Strategy for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2045.

In this strategy, the State sets out specific goals and directions to promote the livestock industry to develop in a green, clean and sustainable direction. One of the top priorities is to strengthen international cooperation and technology transfer to access scientific and technological advances in the world.

Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien affirmed that Vietnam's livestock industry is facing great opportunities and challenges, and to maintain and enhance its position in the international arena, cooperation from all relevant parties is essential.
