Together we build a home
Living under the same roof for more than 30 years, through many hardships and difficulties, the love between Mrs. Pham Thi Tuyet Quan and Mr. Nguyen Van Canh (Phu Thu ward, Cai Rang district) is still warm. Mrs. Quan confided: “When we first got married, my husband worked in Phu An commune (now Phu Thu ward), I opened a hair salon. To increase income, I opened a refreshment shop, raised livestock... Although busy with work, my husband still took the time to help his wife, from wholesale to cleaning the house.”

After many hardships, my grandparents always worked together to build a happy family and take care of their two children so that they could study well. Mrs. Quan said: “Back then, the roads were difficult to travel, so my eldest son had to go by boat to primary school. Every day, from early morning, I woke up, prepared food, and took the boat to the center of Cai Rang town to study. On stormy rainy days, my heart was burning, I put aside housework and went to school to pick up my children. Seeing that my children's studies were quite difficult compared to their peers in the city, my husband and I encouraged them and saved every penny to take care of them and create conditions for them to study well...”. The love and sacrifice of their parents always served as a support and motivation for their children to strive to study and practice. Both of their children were well-behaved, studious, and filial. Currently, their eldest son is working as a nurse at a large hospital, and their youngest daughter is studying abroad in Korea. “On family members’ birthdays or Tet holidays, my son often organizes parties to create a happy, warm atmosphere. He confides that this is a way to express affection, connect family members and express gratitude to his parents,” said Ms. Quan.
When the children grew up and the economy was stable, in 2019, with the encouragement of the Women's Union staff, Ms. Quan joined the work and took on the role of Head of the Women's Union in Phu Khanh area. Sharing the secret to building a happy family, Ms. Quan and her husband thought together: "Husband and wife are in agreement, unanimous, supporting each other from work to life, raising children". Every time the locality organizes a cooking contest, the couple participates. The couple's harmony is shown in the products, which are delicious, beautiful, and meaningful dishes. Last year, on the occasion of the Vietnamese Family Day organized by the district, the couple won first prize in the cooking contest.

Although Binh Tran Cordyceps production facility has only been established for a few years, it is known by many customers. This model is the result of the efforts of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh and Ms. Dang Ngoc Xuyen (Thoi Binh ward, Ninh Kieu district) to overcome difficulties. After 15 years of marriage and more than 5 years of starting a business, they have always worked together to build a home and nurture their careers.

Mr. Thanh works at the Department of Microbial Technology, Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology, Can Tho University; and Ms. Xuyen works at the People's Committee of Thoi Binh Ward. To develop the family economy, at the end of 2019, both decided to start a business cultivating Cordyceps. With the support of their parents, Mr. Thanh and Ms. Xuyen invested in and equipped machinery to do so. At first, they only cultivated a few hundred embryos. Due to limited techniques, they had difficulty controlling the mushrooms to grow evenly. Ms. Xuyen said: "Many batches of mushrooms failed, sometimes thousands of boxes of mushrooms were damaged. Although it was difficult, we were not discouraged." After researching and being confident in the technique, Mr. Thanh and Ms. Xuyen decided to register the Binh Tran Cordyceps production facility in 2020. Mr. Thanh confided: “Up to now, the facility has been operating stably. Because it is a small facility, it only has a capacity of 3,000-4,000 embryos, producing in a pillow style, providing mushroom embryos, fresh mushrooms, dried mushrooms, wine and cool water from Cordyceps.”
Mr. Thanh and Ms. Xuyen are also united in encouraging each other to study and improve their qualifications. Mr. Thanh is currently a PhD student in biotechnology; Ms. Xuyen completed her master's degree in economics and law in 2023. In order to reap the "sweet fruit", they had to go through countless challenges to balance work, business, study and family care. Ms. Xuyen shared: "I feel very lucky to have my husband's support and create conditions for me to develop my career and economy. Whether studying or starting a business, we always have each other, seeing each other as a solid support. It is the fact that we work together and overcome challenges that has helped my husband and I become more connected and loving."
Every day, despite being busy with work, the couple still spends time taking care of their home with two obedient and lovely children. Loving his wife and children, Mr. Thanh does not mind the hardship and is willing to share the housework. Mr. Thanh confided: “For me, family is the most important thing. I always want family members to love each other, and for my children to be well taken care of and grow up.”
In response to Vietnamese Family Day, the city has promoted the promotion of families to preserve and promote cultural traditions, care for and support each other to progress together. Like Ms. Tham, Ms. Quan, and Ms. Xuyen, from the support of their families, each person has more goals and motivation to strive, both to create personal happiness and to work well, contributing to the community with meaningful work.
