Attending the conference were comrades: Trinh Xuan Truong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Thanh Sinh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of leaders of departments, branches, Lao Cai and Yen Bai Tourism Associations (before the merger); tourism service businesses, tourism vocational training establishments and central and local press agencies.
Also attending the conference were Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Trung Luong, Former Deputy Director of the Institute for Tourism Development Research; Mr. Vu Quoc Tri, Standing Committee Member, General Secretary of the Vietnam Tourism Association.

At the conference, delegates focused their discussions on the following contents: Opportunities for Lao Cai tourism when merging provinces; difficulties in accessing support policies after the merger; the need to upgrade tourism infrastructure and connecting traffic; shortage of high-quality labor and proposals for vocational training support; unsynchronized promotion work between regions; proposals to strengthen the coordination mechanism between enterprises and state management agencies in handling administrative procedures related to tourism investment.

Representatives of many businesses suggested that the province pay more attention to promoting destinations in newly merged tourist areas; build a common communication strategy, while promoting digital transformation and linking routes and tourist destinations between localities in the province.

Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Sinh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed: Over the past time, Lao Cai tourism has had strong and breakthrough development in both the number of visitors and total revenue from tourism activities. In 2024, Lao Cai welcomed nearly 10 million visitors (old Lao Cai province welcomed over 8 million visitors, Yen Bai province welcomed 2 million visitors), with a total revenue of about 29 trillion VND; In the first 6 months of 2025, the whole province welcomed over 7.2 million visitors (old Lao Cai province welcomed over 5.8 million visitors, Yen Bai province welcomed 1.4 million visitors)... After the merger of the provinces, tourism - the province's spearhead economic sector has more space for development and is full of prospects for development.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee hopes that delegates will contribute many ideas and suggestions so that Lao Cai tourism can truly become a spearhead economic sector, focusing on the following main orientations: Focus on developing sustainable tourism, preserving cultural and natural values, and promoting the national identity of local communities. Tourism projects need to have plans to protect the environment and use resources reasonably. Increase investment in transport infrastructure, tourism facilities such as hotels and tourist attractions. Special priority is given to developing infrastructure for trade and connecting with localities and tourism markets such as Sa Pa Airport, expanding Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway.

Based on the potential and advantages after the merger, it is necessary to develop and diversify tourism products from eco-tourism, cultural tourism, spiritual tourism to resort tourism and adventure sports. Create conditions for local businesses and communities to participate in developing new products.
Continue to promote and advertise tourism, strengthen promotional activities, connect markets and create a brand for Lao Cai tourism through cultural events, festivals, and domestic and international tourism fairs.
Strengthen international cooperation and linkages, encourage cooperation with foreign tourism organizations, and build close tourism links with provinces and cities across the country and region.
At the conference, the Provincial People's Committee Chairman awarded Certificates of Merit to 10 collectives and 8 outstanding individuals with many contributions to tourism development; the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded Certificates of Merit to individuals with contributions to the development of provincial tourism ( photo below ).

The conference is a practical activity to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam's tourism industry, while opening up opportunities to strengthen the connection between the government and businesses, promoting the potential and strengths of the expanded tourism area after the merger, contributing to building the brand "Attractive - professional - sustainable Lao Cai " in the new development stage.
