The road to Phan Thiet airport will be open by the end of 2024.

The Phan Thiet airport access road project connecting the coastal road DT706B (now Vo Nguyen Giap road) through Thien Nghiep commune, Phan Thiet city started construction in January 2024. It is expected to be completed by the end of December 2024.

According to the design, the route is 3.63km long, the roadbed width is 36m, the road surface width is 13.5m, and the sidewalk width on each side is 5m.

In addition, this route will have synchronous construction of sidewalks, drainage systems, trees, lighting and fire-fighting water supply. The total investment of the project is about 117.9 billion VND from the provincial budget.

These days, the construction site on the road to Phan Thiet airport is bustling with motorbikes, many construction teams are busy constructing the roadbed, lighting system, and sidewalks.

According to the reporter of Giao thong Newspaper, up to now, the construction unit has completed laying a layer of C19 asphalt (right side of the route) connecting from the coastal road to the gate of Phan Thiet airport.

Engineer Le Thanh Tung, Project Construction Site Commander, said: As of August 15, the contractor has completed the C19 asphalt concrete layer on the right side of the route, temporarily putting it into operation to serve vehicles entering and exiting the military airport.

"The construction unit is focusing on constructing the roadbed on the left side of the route. When the weather is favorable, they will start paving the asphalt surface on the left side of the route.

At the same time, the contractor is constructing traffic safety items and lighting systems to ensure traffic flow according to the signed contract," said engineer Thanh Tung.

According to the Binh Thuan Province Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor), after 7 months of construction, the project is closely following the schedule. The investor has directed the contractor to focus on human resources, equipment, and machinery to speed up construction... to complete the project by the end of December 2024.

Phan Thiet Airport started construction in January 2015. Up to now, the military items being built by the Air Defense - Air Force have been exploited for military flights in early August 2024.

The civil category is adjusted from a level 4C airport to a level 4E airport with a 3,050m runway and a passenger terminal with a designed capacity of two million passengers per year. Currently, Binh Thuan province is promoting the selection of a replacement investor to soon restart the civil airport category according to regulations.
