Fueling startups
In recent years, Hue city has taken solid steps to promote the development of the innovative startup ecosystem; in which, the focus is on supporting innovative startup products and projects with commercial potential and positive impact on society. According to the representative of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the city is currently implementing many comprehensive support policies from the stage of forming ideas, perfecting business models to bringing products to market. Specifically, such as incubation programs, startup acceleration, connecting consultants, supporting technology testing costs, implementing science and technology topics, designing labels and packaging, brand communication and market access...
An important highlight is the City-level Innovation Startup Competition, held annually since 2017, attracting hundreds of projects, many of which have high applicability and sustainable development prospects. Through the competition, potential startup ideas and projects are selected and focused on supporting, perfecting business models, enhancing access and absorption of technology to improve product quality.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, Director of Hue Viet Organic Company Limited, who participated and guided many authors and groups of authors participating in the Innovation Startup Competition, expressed that thanks to the companionship and support of the Central and the city, many startup projects have been connected with investors, incubators, innovation support funds and gradually expanded the market.
Ms. Hue and many startups hope to continue to receive companionship and support from the city and functional agencies in a number of areas: Support for communication and product promotion; support for the application of new technology and new processes to improve productivity and product quality; guidance on trademark registration, as well as support for businesses to register to perform S&T tasks in developing new products and products with the Hue brand.
Some other opinions say that Hue still lacks an environment to connect creative spaces and startup spaces. Although Hue Innovation Hub currently has a space for exchange and creativity for startups in Hue, the scale is still quite small. Meanwhile, Hue has many fields to form strong creative and startup spaces such as: Cuisine, health tourism, medicinal herbs, high-tech agriculture , handicrafts, digital technology... In addition, Hue also needs training and coaching spaces for technology, technology product testing spaces... so that startups can experience and create creative startup solutions and products with high potential for development and commercialization.
Reaching out to the market
Not just stopping at ideas, thanks to the support from the government, support organizations and the business community, many innovative start-up products in Hue have made a clear change. From shaping the domestic market to gradually exporting abroad, these products are gradually affirming their position with quality and local identity.
Ms. Tran Thi Thanh, CEO of Thanh An Organic Ginger Pills startup, shared that right after being awarded the prize by the Chairman of the City People's Committee at the Innovation Startup Competition, the unit was supported to participate in displaying and introducing its products at many promotional and trade promotion programs, major events such as Techfest, international trade fairs... Through this, the unit was able to listen to feedback from "customers", access new technologies, new designs to perfect products and develop the consumer market.
Ms. Le Nhat Phuong, founder of Bo Chinh Royal Ginseng, also highly appreciated the companionship and active support from the Department of Science and Technology, Hue City Innovation and Startup Center, Hue City Investment, Trade and Enterprise Support Center and many organizations. From a small scale of production and business, monotonous products, up to now, Bo Chinh Royal Ginseng has had many useful products that have been welcomed by the market. Bo Chinh ginseng product lines are available at many specialty stores, OCOP product introduction points, approaching the Korean market...
According to Mr. Cung Trong Cuong, Director of Hue Innovation Hub, the Center is focusing on building a digital connection platform between founders, investors, service providers, and financiers to form a highly connected startup ecosystem. This is a condition for startup products to reach the market more strongly.
In the coming time, when the National Center for Innovative Startups in Hue is formed with large-scale science and technology institutions, such as: High-tech Park, Science Park associated with the Innovation Center, human resource training facilities for information technology, AI, semiconductor industry, biotechnology... will further connect scientists with businesses, linking innovative startup activities with the application of science and technology, and mastering technology. With the right strategy and flexible policies, practical support, and methodical market connections, Hue will be a "fertile land" for startups to take off.
